A Music Venue 10 Years In The Making.

UNStudio’s MUMUTH, the Haus für Musik und Musiktheater opened this month in Graz, Austria’s second largest city (“Haus für Musik”… I like). They’ve been planning/building the joint for 10 years and it looks fucking amazing. The interior is sleek, curvy and modern, all hidden within a grated, boxy structure which, despite it’s metallic properties, appears soft to the touch…Like my gentle soul. Strangely, it looks like it was plopped in the middle of a suburban neighborhood. Take a look at designboom to see pics of the idea coming to life.

‘We wanted to create a building that would be as much about music as a building can be,’ say UNStudio’s Ben van Berkel and Caroline Bos.

To celebrate the opening of the new space, the Institute for Music Drama staged a performance of Mozart’s opera ‘The Magic Flute’. Pretty rad if you’re into magic and/or flutes and who isn’t? And the place has adjustable acoustics to make it ideal for ANY type of performance. Also rad, expect to hear news of Wu Tang Clan’s next reunion at the HAUS FUR MUSIK DAAAAAAA.

Now I’m gonna move over to iTunes, press shuffle and click next to see what fate has chosen to play in my imagination at the Haus für Musik. Result: Antony & the Johnsons – Aeon. Well I would gladly take that, even tho ODB isn’t part of ‘the Johnsons’. Now listen and look:
