Beer and Wine at the Hollywood Fresh & Easy!

Good news, Hollywood. The Fresh & Easy Market on Hollywood and Sycamore finally added a beer and wine section.

F&E Beer

F&E Beer

The beer selection seemed pretty meager—mostly your standard domestic megabrew crap with a touch of imported megabrew crap for international flair. A few large sections of the fridge were still empty, so I’ll cling to the hope that they’re reserving that space for something drinkable.

F&E Wine

F&E Wine

The wine section is more respectable with a decent selection for the store’s size. They have the usual grocery store wines—Coppola, Kendall Jackson, Turning Leaf, etc.—nothing special.

The Challenger: F&E Two-Buck

The Challenger: F&E Two-Buck

The highlight of the wine section, and an obvious attempt to steal the thriving Cheap Wino market from Trader Joe’s and its ace-in-the-hole Two-Buck Chuck, is the $2 shelf, which features not one, but TWO brands of $2 wine. Big Kahuna and Vista Point are both available in several varietals by the bottle or the case. Cases of F&E two-buck are $19.99. I *think*  TJ’s sells TBC cases for $23.88 (12x$1.99—no volume discount). It’s like a cheap wine battle royale.

The Champ

The Champ

If anyone has done a taste-off of the F&E two-buck choices against the reigning Cheap Wine Champ, Two-Buck Chuck, tell us about it. I want to know how it stacks up before I blow $4. If there’s no existing data, I’ll take one for the team and do it myself so I can report back.
