Werner Herzog goes 3D for his new documentary, Cave of Forgotten Dreams

Here’s a trailer for Werner Herzog’s Cave of Forgotten Dreams, about the Chauvet Cave in France, preserved since its discovery in 1994. Within lies the oldest known cave paintings, approximately 32,000 years old, in an underground museum that is also home to significant levels of radon and carbon dioxide. There is more about the film at LA Weekly here and at the Tiff Organization’s website here. Especially interesting is the strict methodology that Herzog had to employ while working in such delicate conditions, which you can find out about on the Wikipedia page here. The film has screened here and there, with a tentative Spring 2011 theatrical release slated according to the IFC Entertainment website, who acquired the rights to the documentary last September.
