From the release:
“CalArts President Steven D. Lavine’s ongoing investigation of the role of creativity in contemporary culture continues with a lively discussion exploring the intersections of art and entrepreneurship at REDCAT, CalArts’ downtown center for contemporary arts, on October 15, 2013 at 8:30 p.m. President Lavine will be joined by two visionary and influential figures in the world of contemporary art: artist Michael Chow and collector/curator Jeffrey Deitch.
After studying architecture and painting, Michael Chow became a central figure in the London arts and cultural scene in the 1960s, and then went on to build an international profile working at the intersection of art, fashion and business. Following his successful launch of an international enterprise, Chow is again focusing his attention on painting, creating a prolific collection of new works.
Chow will be joined in conversation with Jeffrey Deitch, the founder of Deitch Projects, who has served as a gallerist, curator and as the director of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA).
The discussion will explore the application of creative work across cultural endeavors, an approach reflected in each of the speaker’s wide-range of projects. Also included are short films and videos reflecting each man’s creative undertakings and perspectives on contemporary art.”
