If you’ve ever wondered what scream-o and shitty club music sounded like together??? Wait no more. Abortion survivors brokeNCYDE have tapped into a genre that was never asking to be made… much like them.
WTTD readers meet sweet-beat-maker Nicolay and his cohort, Phonte. Together they are The Foreign Exchange, a North Carolina-based Neo Soul act that has that “something different” that us underground hip-hop heads so seek out and desire. Their new album, Leave It All Behind, has a fresh blend of chillout, electronica and soul, leaving behind the hip-hop feel of their first release, Connected. Phonte Coleman, formerly of Little Brother and the Justus League (which borne unto us producer 9th Wonder), has engineered a music career doing what any real artist should do…evolve. Lucky you L.A.! You get 2 nights of these guys! The Foreign Exchange Sept 13th & 14th. The Roxy, West Hollywood. Get tickets here.
Soulslider has a theory on chicks like Peaches. You see… guys have two lists of girls they’ve hooked up with… there are the girls you brag and tell your friends about… and then there’s the “actual” list. The “no-bragging-and-if-there-was-an-erase-horrible-memories-pill-I’d-take-it-the-morning-after” list. Peaches, although famous, falls into the “actual” list. Nonetheless, she does make an interesting song every now and again, not sure if this is one of them, however, but the video is just goofy enough for me to like, so I’m posting it.
She’s on a US tour, hitting Las Vegas on Oct. 24th, New York on Nov 14th, and Los Angeles on Jan. 28th at the Wiltern. (Not surprisingly, Amanda Blank aka Peaches Light is opening for a great deal of the tour.) One of the two last Peaches shows here sold out, so get tickets asap if you’re into that sort of thing. More tour dates after the jump.
Soulslider loves him some Smashing Pumpkins or anything Billy Corgan does for that matter, good or more often than not, bad. Why Billy is playing at Hotel Cafe, which seats about 50 hipsters, he has no idea. It’ll be the last of 4 west coast concerts which I guess will act as a sort of test run for the Pumpkins new teen age drummer. Billy & The Sky with Diamonds or whatever they’re called go up at 8. Good Luck getting anywhere near the door.
This will be all the room that Billy has at Hotel Cafe.
With all the originality of Stephen Colbert posing for an endless fire mantle portrait of himself comes…. Paul Banks’, lead singer of Interpol, solo work: Julian Plenti is… Skyscraper. To be honest… it ain’t so bad, just slightly off Interpol’s beaten path. It seems to be a more personal album for Paul err.. Julian. The girls love his voice, the guys love… well shit I’ll say it, his voice. There are some sweet moments on the album with “H” and “Madrid Song” being current favorites of mine. Album was released on August 3rd, 2009 from Matador.
Here’s “Games for Days“…
Must have been taken at the album release party... crickets...crickets...
