TONIGHT Grindhouse presents the cult classic An American Hippie In Israel at the Steve Allen Theater. the cheeseball psychedelic masterpiece of terrible is screening after thirty-one years of obscurity. seems like it will probably be full of antidisestablishmentarianism. and also drugs. lots of drugs. i have no idea why but The Ettes are also bringing their Nashville lo-fi garage rock to the night. this seems like a whole lot of amazing for only $10, and movies actually sell out at the Steve Allen a lot so get your tickets in advance here. (The Ettes are also playing tomorrow night at the Echo - tickets here for only $8.) “shut your ass!” (*update: there are cheaper tickets available through Goldstar here. get them fast, it stops a few hours before the show.)

Stumbled across this amazing short film by Tim Burton, narrated by Vincent Price, about a boy who wants to BE Vincent Price. It was created in 1982 (wayyy before CG animation) and here’s some fun trivia, between the 1:17 and 1:25 minute marks you can see an early form of the character Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas…which came out 10 years later.

Animal Collective created a film… it will be featured at Sundance. Avey Tare says, “It’s kinda like a psychedelic film, it’s not like a narrative film or anything.” He explained. “There are more cohesive moments in it, but then there are some that are a little more abstract.” I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say it’s gonna be weird.

The Submarines‘ new video for Submarine Symphonika is so cute it makes me want to do something truly horrific just to even out the tao a little. director Josh Forbes also made the awesome video for Peace and Hate, and he has a ton more music videos available for your perusal at his Winch&Pulley site, including videos for Sea Wolf, Cold War Kids, Ariel Pink, Alkaline Trio, and a ton more.
