you like minimal shoegazing ambient electronica, don’t you? well sure you do! you like spending only twelve bucks per ticket, right? well sure you do! what a coincidence i should bring those points up, because there’s a minimal shoegazing ambient electonica double header at Echoplex on Friday, September 17th, with Pantha du Prince and The Sight Below and cheap as fuck tickets are available here for only twelve bucks. (yes, that’s Noah Lennox from Animal Collective on vocals in the video above.) – also, on a related tip, further hilarious evidence at how impossibly pretentious those Pitchfork kidz are – money quote from the Pantha du Prince write-up that Echoplex included on the event page for Pantha, “Though he lacks the crossover name recognition of producers like the Field, Burial, and Lindstrøm”… you know, because all three of those guys are on my xmas lists.
Kat Von D has entered the Los Angeles art space with her new Wonderland Gallery next to High Voltage, her LA Ink tattoo shop on La Brea. the first show to open there tomorrow night is Kevin Llewellyn’s The Unsaid, which looks pretty spookerific and even if you don’t care so much about art, i’m sure that it will be chock full of Von D’s famous vampire pals. (no word on if it’s open to the public or not, however.) interesting fun fact, while trying to find a nice, presentable image of Kat i found out she’s now going out with Jesse James, America’s number one scum bag. this is following the impressive dating lineage of Nikki Sixx, Alex Orbison, Steve-O and Oliver Pecker. maybe she’s following her STDs to the source, like a werewolf, and if she kills him she’ll at last be freed? (following today’s theme of guest posts, this is clearly an entry from Perez Hilton.)naked skull-faced people
Hello Everyone! We’re going to be sharing information on upcoming Japanese, Korean, and global pop happenings in Los Angeles, from time to time at Wreck the Tape Deck. We are promoters and DJs specializing in Asian pop club events–our monhtly show, Tune in Tokyo, is held in Little Tokyo at 2nd Street Jazz, located at 366 E 2nd Street, Los Angeles, California (corner of 2nd and Central in Little Tokyo). There is plenty parking available, but please make sure to check garage hours and street parking signs.
We’re shifting gears on Friday September 3rd with our K-Pop Meet-Up! We’re thrilled that the SM Town 2010 Tour is coming to Staples Center, and to celebrate, we’re throwing our own unofficial pre-party at I Love Boba the night before! DJs Tora, Leett, Del, and yours truly will be spinning Korean and Global Pop from 9 pm – 1 am. There is no cover, but be sure to patronize the shop with a drink purchase. You won’t be disappointed! I Love Boba has the best boba in Koreantown! It’s located at 534 S Western, Los Angeles, CA 90020. If you’re going to be in town for the show, feel free to stop by! We might even sneak in a little Jpop!
The next night, September 4th, we’ll all be going to see SM Town, featuring Super Junior, Girls Generation, f(x), SHINee, BoA, and more! It’s already been a great year for K-Pop in Los Angeles, with appearances by Wonder Girls, 2PM, and everyone at the Korea Times Festival last May, including Kara, B2ST, and Lessang. We can’t wait to see all the awesome SM Entertainment artists appearing at Staples Center this September. Hope to see you there!
The weekend comes to a close with another cool global pop event on Sunday, September 5th. Our friends at Tokyo Style present DJ Suzuki Ami, and DJ Mayumi, spinning at club Vanguard in Hollywood! Join these very special guests from Japan for a night of pumping electronic beats. There will also be a fashion show! Pre-Sale tickets are available online.
DJ Del and I will be spinning the next weekend, on Saturday September 11th, at the opening night reception for Sweet Streets 2 at Gallery Nucleus! We’ll be presenting the new Sweet Streets compilation, and will be dropping our own Tune in Tokyo set later in the evening. Art & Shopgirl fashion show by 6%dokidoki (who’ll also be joining us behind the decks!). Makeup by Sugarpill. This night of Japanese music and fashion is not to be missed! Nucleus is located at 210 East Main St, Alhambra, CA 91801.
Thanks for checking out our update. I’ll be back later in the week with more news on Tune in Tokyo events and the Japanese and global pop scene in Los Angeles!
