this amazing song deserves a far better video than this. The Big Pink is hitting the El Rey tonight with the Jesus and Mary Chain-ish A Place To Bury Strangers, Active Child and IO Echo, and tickets are still available here. (Big Pink will be back for Coachella next month, too.)
fuck that. Mark Linkous, sole driving force of Sparklehorse, and collaborator on the Dark Night of the Soul Dangermouse project with David Lynch, has taken his own life. fuck that. seriously. FUCK. THAT…… you had much more to offer this world, Mark. regardless, thanks for the music, and peace be with you… i guess you needed it. pour one out 4 tha homiez, y’all. (if you’re not familiar with Sparklehorse, It’s A Wonderful Life is one of the best albums ever made, and it’s a more than fitting requiem.)
these guys are going to be fucking huge. The Foals with a gorgeously minimal new video for Spanish Sahara. there’s a nice little ambient remix on their Myspace page, too.
Ok Go is playing the Music Box at Henry Fonda Theater (get your tickets here tomorrow), and i don’t really care too much about that, but it gives me a chance to post their awesome This Too Shall Pass videos that are such a big deal all over the internets and worlds wides webseses. here is the new one:
and here’s the older one, which isn’t executed nearly as well, but it’s still pretty damn neat.
who even knows what band he’s fronting anymore THAT PHILANDERING WHORE!!! RADIOHEAD WAS SO GOOD TO YOU HOW COULD YOU TREAT THEM THIS WAY?!?!? sir Thomas of Yorke has been spoiling the Atoms For Peace surprise lately with live versions of brand new songs at a charity show he did in Cambridge. super excited to see Atoms of Peace at Coachella, and now even more so. more about the tour direct from Thom after the jump.
Download a free 12-disc compilation of female-fronted punk bands spanning 1977-1989. I know it sounds too good to be true, but I’m not making it up. Get started with the first 4 disks here.
just a quick post to let you know that WTTD pal Adam Bones is opening up for Visqueen and Bear Hands tonight at Spaceleand. not a fan of Visqueen, but Bear Hands definitely merits a listen. good stuff. Ari Shine also opens.
feel like standing around for hours on end and waiting for a bunch of old dudes to make you deaf? of course you do! Dinosaur Jr. is playing a free surprise (yeah right… there’s this thing called the internet, folks) show at the hella intimate Troubadour this coming Tuesday night. the doors open at 8pm, and it’s first come, first serve. good luck y’all. if people (morbidly OBESE people at that) are willing to spend their unemployed days in line just to get a free Moons Over My Hammy, then the wait for this one will probably go down the block. good thing Dinosaur is so loud, you’ll probably be able to hear them anyway. (Troub’s email says to send an email to dinojr@mog.com to get your name on the list, though it doesn’t guarantee entry. also it’s eighteen and over.)
