it’s sad, but even as beautiful as this is, i just don’t have the patience for an eleven minute video anymore. people used to bitch about tv making everyone all ADD, but the internet has just KILLED it. music by Jacaszek (who all you New Yorkers just missed at the Unsound Festival), video directed by Marc Silver (who has a ton more videos on his site. Ageless Sex is particularly uplifting/disturbing).
I like The Very Best. I like them because their music is infectiously happy and it helps me through the frigid New York winters (waaaahhh I hate you LA). Here’s Very Best’s frontman Esau Mwamwaya with Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend doing “Warm Heart of Africa” and it looks like the two of them are having a blast poppin and lockin around the streets of NYC (is that canal street?). I smell a buddy-cop comedy in their future.
This Martin Luther King Jr weekend, the man behind the ?uestion mark is gonna throw down a serious BK warehouse party.
If you wanna get up close and personal with the dude who packs stadiums then now’s your chance. ?uestlove will be doing a special DJ tribute to MLK this Sunday (1/17) at The Can Factory in Brooklyn. It will be a night full of sweaty, soulful, baby-making, happy-time, groovin music.

Here’s a track to wet your lips, Quest on the beat and Thought on the mic, this is when they shine:
here’s a slick video from the amazing if somewhat bookwormish Passion Pit for the single To Kingdom Come. they’re hitting Terminal 5 tonight and tomorrow and Sunday, although everything is all sold out, so if you big bullies want to beat them up for being such geeks, then you’ll have to wait for them out back in the alley. these guys are total, TOTAL dorks, but i have to admit that i wish i was as cool as them.
everyone is in the giving mood, even jesus santa, so here are a few links for some free, legal new music. click the images below. first we have a new Groove Armada ep at Toyota’s Music Myspace page.
next, the ever lovelyCharlotte Gainsbourg is offering a free Nosaj Thing remix of her Beck-backed single Heaven Can Wait via her mailing list which you can sign up for here. you probably have to do this one fast. the email came in this morning.
and last but CERTAINLY not least, jesus satan favs The Antlers (who are hitting LA again as support for the Editors at the Wiltern in February 2010, tickets here) are offering an amazing and certified bootleg of their final show of the year at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC from NYCTAPER.
Todd James aka REAS is having a New York exhibition, “Make My Burden Lighter,” opening January 15th at the Gering & Lopez Gallery, reception is from 6 to 8pm. It’s about time! If you’re into penis cartoons and lactating boobies, this one’s for you! Check out his site to learn more about the ridiculous human being that is, Todd James.
“Consistently funny, relentlessly appealing, and often deliriously transgressive, the work of Reas International is instantly recognizable to the cultural connoisseur.”
here’s a slick new video from the amazing if somewhat bookwormish Passion Pit for the single To Kingdom Come. they’re hitting Los Angeles tonight (kind of) at the Fox Theater in Pomona. in early January they’re also playing three shows in New York at Terminal 5, although the first two nights are way sold out, so act fast and get your tickets for the tenth here. these guys are total, TOTAL dorks, but jesus satan has to admit that i wish i was as cool as them.
The Arctic Monkeys arrive in New York tonight, bringing 30 degree temperatures with them. Fuck you Arctic A-holes. Why can’t you be the Flaming Apes or the Scorching Gorillas? I’m finally jealous of you sun baked Angelenos. Anyway they’re playing tonight and tomorrow with the Screaming Females at Terminal 5. Get your tickets here because… there’s not much else going on so why not?
here’s a slick new video from the amazing if somewhat bookwormish Passion Pit for the single To Kingdom Come. they’re hitting Los Angeles (kind of) December 12th at the Fox Theater in Pomona and tickets are still available right here. in early January they’re also playing three shows in New York at Terminal 5, although the first two nights are way sold out, so act fast and get your tickets for the tenth here. these guys are total, TOTAL dorks, but jesus satan has to admit that i wish i was as cool as them.
man, i want some cake! tonight Asthmatic Kitty Records indentured servants Jookabox are playing the Cake Shop in NY. the show is cheap as fuck at only $7, but mostly i’m posting about it because i really, REALLY miss Halloween, and this rad video is very Halloween-esque (that’s a fancy, big time-y way of saying “like”), and you all know how much i like to relive my youth (aka stay stuck in the past). you can’t get tickets in advance, which is the weirdest thing ever in the digital age, and that earns this show jesus satan’s hipster swine gold seal of disapproval.
