i have no doubt this movie is going to be typical White Stripes magic. i was watching some of their music videos the other day, and i’m consistently amazed at how good everything they touch is. i mean, just look at this god damn flyer?!?!? there is a special screener this Monday evening at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood with director(s) Emmet Malloy doing a special speaking engagement. (leave it to the White Stripes to go and get a director(s) named fucking Emmet.) i wouldn’t be surprised if one or both of the Whites show up, too, by the way. so get your tickets here and snag them fast. more info after the jump.
tonight WTTD pal and internet pin-up queen Courtney Cruz brings a sexy reprise of her Star Wars themed stripperella show to the Henry Fonda theater. for plenty more naughtiness from other Devil’s Playground shows, including Video Game Girls and Fetish Girls, check out our gallery section here. tickets aren’t available anymore online, but there are plenty at the door. jesus satan will see you there. (*UPDATE – this was all sold out and jesus satan did NOT see you there. congratulations Courtney!)
i’m with Team Coco. get your tickets here and get them fast cause this it totally going to sell out (just like Leno did!). also, if you have seven hundred dollars laying around, there is a meet and greet ticket available, which seems like a bargain, honestly…
this amazing song deserves a far better video than this. The Big Pink is hitting the El Rey tonight with the Jesus and Mary Chain-ish A Place To Bury Strangers, Active Child and IO Echo, and tickets are still available here. (Big Pink will be back for Coachella next month, too.)
if there’s one thing that jesus satan hates, it’s hate. tonight Manifest Equality opens at 1341 Vine St. in Hollywood with a splendiferous group show in support of equal rights for everyone, not just old white people. you better be there even if you don’t care too much about humanity and stuff, because the roster of artists (posted below) is absolutely stellar with pieces from Shepard Fairey, Harvey Pekar (American Splendor!), Ron English, Tim Biskup, El Mac, and a ton more awesome commies. (also, while i’m on the subject of hate, on March 29th that sonofabitchmurderingfuck Karl Rove is doing a paid speaking engagement at Saban Theater in Beverly Hills, so start rotting your tomatoes now, Los Angeles.)
just a quick post to let you know that WTTD pal Adam Bones is opening up for Visqueen and Bear Hands tonight at Spaceleand. not a fan of Visqueen, but Bear Hands definitely merits a listen. good stuff. Ari Shine also opens.
sweet teaser (you like to tease, don’t you baby?) for upcoming spring shows at my girlfriend the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City. check out the Art From The New World all star group show scheduled for May in merry olde Britannia. that’s right, limeys, we’re taking over. you thought all was forgiven after the Revolution? no. fucking. way. we’re coming for you!!!
feel like standing around for hours on end and waiting for a bunch of old dudes to make you deaf? of course you do! Dinosaur Jr. is playing a free surprise (yeah right… there’s this thing called the internet, folks) show at the hella intimate Troubadour this coming Tuesday night. the doors open at 8pm, and it’s first come, first serve. good luck y’all. if people (morbidly OBESE people at that) are willing to spend their unemployed days in line just to get a free Moons Over My Hammy, then the wait for this one will probably go down the block. good thing Dinosaur is so loud, you’ll probably be able to hear them anyway. (Troub’s email says to send an email to dinojr@mog.com to get your name on the list, though it doesn’t guarantee entry. also it’s eighteen and over.)
i’ve already mentioned the must see Anatomically Correct opening at Miss Scarlet in the Parlor with Stuntkid, Nomi Chi, James Flames, Eliza Frye and JJ Villard, and there are just too many other great shows tonight not to go out, so get up off your ass, smell-A! (also, you might notice Devandra Banhart’s name on the last flyer…)
Tony Alva, Richard Villa III and Levis present Dagger’s Rule! at the Exhibit A Gallery (FUCK this flyer is just SICK) *UPDATE: OOPS, THIS IS ON THE 27TH. MY BAD.
