Wreck The Tape Deck

Massive Attack has been one of my favs since Protection came out in the early nineties, and while Heligoland is by far their weakest album, their weakest album is still better than most other bands’ strongest. this is the new video/film for Saturday Come Slow with Blur/Gorillaz’ Damon Albarn. it’s an incredibly ballsy move to run something like this as your slick new promotional tool, and i think it’s an incredibly effective piece. (no bullshit, jesus satan went to jail a few weeks back (don’t drink and drive, kids), and they pulled a lot of the same ridiculous shit. i can’t imagine having to spend months and even years of your life under those kinds of conditions, no matter what the crime.) check out some of the other progressive videos from Heligoland here. i wholeheartedly recommend the NSFW film for Paradise Circus with Georgina Spelvin of The Devil In Miss Jones fame. Massive is also playing two shows at the Wiltern on May 18th and 19th (tickets here), which i also wholeheartedly recommend. their live shows are beautiful, sophisticated pieces of collaborative art. more from their blog about the video for Saturday Come Slow and Music Against Torture after the jump.

here’s some new goofiness from the Yeasayer and directors Radical Friend team effort. more or less a sci-fi-ish accompaniment to the highly  recommended Ambling Alp experience, O.N.E. is the second single off of their new album, Odd Blood. they’ll be back for Coachella (tickets here) if you missed them at Nat’l History Museum’s First Friday last month. (lord knows jesus satan did.)

David OReilly did some neat Lady Gag 3D animation portraits. there are more from the series here (click on “view fullscreen”) and some very, um, ABSTRACT ones that were rejected here. also, here’s some weirdness from his Sesame Street/Aniboom’s Animate to Educate animation contest entry (vote for the winners here). i think we can take a stab in the dark and wish him our condolences for not winning. also also, check out a fun little animator protest to Sesame Street here.

Zooey Deschanel is so cute. i just want to punch her in those sweet little eyes. She & Him (i.e. Zooey and M. Ward) are playing around LA over the next month with shows at Largo (sold out), the El Rey (sold out) and the Glass House (sold out) to warm up for Coachella on the 16th, which is apparently the only way you’ll get to see them. or you can just watch the new video for In The Sun.

i have no doubt this movie is going to be typical White Stripes magic. i was watching some of their music videos the other day, and i’m consistently amazed at how good everything they touch is. i mean, just look at this god damn flyer?!?!? there is a special screener this Monday evening at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood with director(s) Emmet Malloy doing a special speaking engagement. (leave it to the White Stripes to go and get a director(s) named fucking Emmet.) i wouldn’t be surprised if one or both of the Whites show up, too, by the way. so get your tickets here and snag them fast. more info after the jump.
