here’s a slick new video from the amazing if somewhat bookwormish Passion Pit for the single To Kingdom Come. they’re hitting Los Angeles tonight (kind of) at the Fox Theater in Pomona. in early January they’re also playing three shows in New York at Terminal 5, although the first two nights are way sold out, so act fast and get your tickets for the tenth here. these guys are total, TOTAL dorks, but jesus satan has to admit that i wish i was as cool as them.
merry christ everyone! Fitz & The Tantrums have made their soul-tastic/Hall & Oates love child ep Songs For A Breakup Volume. 1 available as a free download throughout the rest of the year via their website. all you have to do is sign up to their email list here, and you’ll also get three songs from their KCRW Morning Becomes Eclectic appearance, as well as a fun little Keene remix. looks like xmas is coming a little early this year for all you heartbroken mod types. also, randomly, they’re hitting the Casbah on December eleventh down in San Diego. Orgone opens and tickets are available here. (thanks, Blarg.)

tonight Dan Witz brings some literal street art to Carmichael Gallery (1257 N. La Brea, 90038) from 7-10. half of the works are actually placed on doors, alleys, etc., and i can’t tell whether or not it will look as good as it seems. either way, my interest is piqued. (more info after the jump)

awesome, yet again another chance for me to post this amazing song/video from The Antlers. they’re playing tonight at the Bootleg Theater (2220 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles, 90057 (213) 389-3856) on October 29th. these boys are going to be indie rock huge. which really isn’t that big, actually. so i guess they’ll be indie rock medium-sized.
new sort of Halloween-y video from Modeselektor, who are playing the Forum in Los Angeles at HARD Haunted Mansion on the second day of the festival (October 30th + October 31st – tickets are still available here). not an amazing lineup, but definitely good enough for ecstacy-lovers, with performances from Justice, Deadmau5, 2ManyDJs, A-Trak, Bloody Beetroots, Basement Jaxx, Crookers, Major Lazer, WTTD homeboy Steve Aoki, Classixx, and more.
New Yorkers, don’t feel all left out in the cold (even if you are, hee hee, ’cause we live in Los Angeles where even when it’s raining it’s hella comfortable) because Modeselektor has a headlining show all their own the following weekend at the Music Hall of Williamsburg (November 7th – tickets are available here.)

Passion Pits – Sleepyhead
Passion Pit sold out a grip of shows here in Los Angeles a while back, so they’re going to grace us with their presence once more with a show tonight at the Henry Fonda. i like them, actually. everyone does. they’re just soooooooo popular. big fcuking whoop, Passion Pit. oooh, so everyone’s your friend? so everyone likes you? well you’ll get yours, Passion Pit. i didn’t want to be your friend, anyway.
this looks fun and/or mildly scary. San Fran artist Alex Pardee brings his Halloween fun to L.A. a little early this year with an opening at Gallery 1988 Los Angeles (7020 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles, 90038 (323) 937-7088). there’s a Halloween contest and everything, so don’t forget to wear your costume. oh, wait, you already are! har dee har har…
Gallery1988: Los Angeles is proud to announce what will undoubtedly be one of the gallery’s most extensive and elaborate exhibits in its history. Bay Area artist Alex Pardee will display a group of new works that he calls his “largest and most intense body of work to date” in “Hiding From The Normals,” which will open with a reception on October 6th, from 7-10 PM. Pardee, who will be in attendance that night, has created a Halloween universe all his own with paintings, prints, t-shirts and an installation that just might scare you. There will even be a Halloween COSTUME CONTEST, where Alex will pick a winner and give out a special treat! On October 6th, we will also be celebrating the highly anticipated DVD/Blu-Ray Release of “Trick R Treat,” a film by Michael Dougherty, which will include a special limited edition “Trick R Treat” t-shirt by Alex Pardee, a screening of the film in our parking lot and the filmmakers signing the movie! We promise this will be one art show you have to see to believe, as Alex has even created his own horror story to tie these new characters together. This show will run until October 29th.
here’s a lovely new video of weirdness for the song “Sing Along” from goofball Icelandic troupe Múm. not sure what they’re smoking up there what with Bjork and Sigur Rós et al, but i wish they’d stop bogarting and send it down our way. that or they’re all just insane from spending so many long dark winters stuck inside with nothing to do but make emotional pop music.
Múm is playing New York on the 24th of October at the Le Poisson Rouge (158 Bleecker Street, 10012 – tickets here) and they stop by Los Angeles at the El Rey (5515 Wilshire Blvd, 90036) in June (tickets here). they’re fun live, should be a quirky good time for all, and this one gets a three thumbs up recommendation from j. satan.
