Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 Slips Out of His Grasp and Alllll Over the Internet.

August 31st, 2009

jay-z ROC blueprint 3
Sucks for him but for you and I, it’s a lot of fun. Jay-Z was supposed to hand deliver his new album, The Blueprint 3, personally. I guess he’s got butter fingers because the INTERNET has the album in it’s possession a full 12 days before the actual release on 9/11/09. The internet herself has been speaking to me about this all day via twitter trends, blogs, forums, etc. We posted the tracklist here earlier if you want to check it out.

Obviously I’m not putting the songs up here, but the friendly folks over at Manolith offer some lovely advice on how to go about finding it:
“While you won’t find the leaked album here, you could, if you wanted, try Googling “megaupload” or “rapidshare” + “blueprint 3? and you’ll … oh nevermind.”

Next week on September 11th, 8 years from the anniversary of the attacks as well as the release of The Blueprint, Jay-Z will be putting on a 9/11 charity concert at MSG titled, “Answer The Call.” Proceeds (they’re hoping to raise about $750,000) will go to the New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund. TICKETS GO ON SALE SEPTEMBER 8TH for $50. That’s a hot ticket.

Check out the new Timbaland-produced single, Venus Vs. Mars:

Listen Up: London based sextet (yow!) Fanfarlo’s album Resevoir out now in the US

July 15th, 2009

Fanfarlo, the London based indie/folk pop sextet has their debut album, Resevoir, out now in the US. Produced by Peter Katis (The National, Interpol), Fanfarlo sounds like David Byrne meets Arcade Fire. Lead Sweedish singer/ songwritter Simon Balthazar creates well-crafted, simple songs which make heavy use of trumpets, violins, guitars, drums, xylophones, saws (yes, saws) and banjos (yes, banjos). The entire album can be downloaded on iTunes currently for only $5.99 (a wise investment), and you can also check them out live at the Troubadour on September 15th. Even David Bowie claimed Fanfarlo one of his favorite new bands back in March (you realize I just name dropped David Bowie, which is why I’m able to keep this post short and sweet, like a chocolate covered midget).

The song below for “I’m A Pilot” speaks for itself.

Imogen Heap takes the First Train Home which is probably a metaphor for something because it’s the new single released from the upcoming album Ellipse

July 15th, 2009

yeah, i’m totally going ghetto on this post ’cause it’s worth it. pseudo-video straight from Imogen Heap’s YouTube channel, the new single First Train Home from the upcoming album Ellipse, which drops August 25th.

YouTube Preview Image

from Imogen herself:

First Train Home

this is the first song off of my new album Ellipse. You can get it now on iTunes US and Canada (if you pre-order the album) and tomorrow (15th July) on iTunes worldwide. Even I have to wait to buy it coz I live in the UK! Hope you like it. Working very hard on getting ellipse released physically worldwide too. So far UK, US, Canada,France and Japan have confirmed physical release. Am working on the other territories. Best thing you can do if you’d like it released in your country is go to the record stores and ask them when they’ll get it in. This should start to trickle back to the international parts of Sony across the world and get them to prick up their ears and release it.

More info soon on countries releasing the physical copies when I get it.

You will be able to buy the physical copy direct from my site on 24th August and we’ll ship it to you. Will be a tad more expensive though coz of import taxes and postage etc. Sorry! there’s just no way around it!

Lots of love
can’t wait until it’s out!

Headlines: VIBE is Dead, Pirate Bay is Sold, MJ Lets the People in and more…

June 30th, 2009

It’s been quite a busy Tuesday in the music world, I shall attempt to fill you in.

PIRATE BAY: the good news is, The Pirate Bay four won’t be going to jail. The bad news is, in order to avoid this, TPB has been sold to the Swedish company Global Gaming Factory. This mean’s they will decentralize their servers and stop hosting trackers and torrents, moving to third parties for help. They will also be selling shares of the company on the Swedish market.

piratebay

Diggers had this to say:
“The revolution is over. The RIAA/MPAA won. They’ll receive their $3.6 million and we’ll lose The Pirate Bay. TPB was for me, a little way of protesting. I laughed at the lobbyists every time I went there. I read the takedown notices many times. I felt like I was part of a movement that might actually force the corporate, greedy motherfuckers to consider adopting a new business model.

They’re fucking laughing at me now. It’s a sad day.”

VIBE: is done. It died alongside MJ. The Source stands alone. Oh yeah, and something called the internets.

MJ: Michael Jackson’s body will be taken to Neverland Ranch for a public viewing on Thursday, July 2nd. Plastic recylcing day is Friday, July 3rd, so get there fast! (hurrah).

This is all so sad, so let’s move on with some HAPPY THOUGHTs. White Denim’s new album, Fits, came out on the 22nd. I just got my copy, I suggest you get yours. Listen to this uncharacteristic track:

White Denim – “Sex Prayer”

Dirty Projectors released a music video for their song “Stillness is the Move”… it’s all over the “sphere” today, so here it is again. Watch out for a wandering llama and some silly sirens.

Seriously, Eddie?

March 11th, 2009

So apparently, the 20th anniversary of Pearl Jam is coming up. In 2011. So, like any good has-been, they’re starting the celebration 2 years in advance. (In case you’re bad at math, that’s now.)

Ten Reissue

Ten Reissue

To get this party started, they’re offering a reissue of iconic album and teen angst soundtrack Ten. As a special gift to you, they’re offering 4 versions ranging from the basic 2-disc remaster-remix to the super-duper-fantastic “Collector’s Edition,” which has cds, a dvd, vinyl, assorted “memorabilia,” and best of all, a cassette tape. The cassette tape is a replica of the demo Vedder created as his application for the position of “Pearl Jam Vocalist.” I suppose for super hardcore fans, this may make up for the fact that it is, in fact, a cassette tape. Maybe if you ask real nice you can borrow Grandma’s car so you’ll have a tape deck to play it on.

Considering that the only money to be made in music sales in the digital age is apparently in vinyl and cassette tapes, it’s no suprise that Pearl Jam’s label, Sony Music, is promoting the hell out of this. They’ve even set up a web site for The Pearl Jam Ten Game. “How do you make a game out of an album?” you ask? Well, you make a sort of digital jigsaw puzzle out of a logo graphic and then make it all gray and turn it on its side so it’s really hard to see what you’re doing. To encourage you to spend a half hour or so doing this, the site rewards you by unlocking a song each time you complete a row.

Apparently if you finish it, you get to watch some videos or something. I didn’t get that far. The game isn’t especially fun, and getting to hear a song I’ve heard a million times isn’t much of a reward. Especially since you have to either listen to the song or play the game. You can’t do both at the same time. (C’mon Sony, what century is this?) If you stop to listen to each song between levels, this thing could take days to complete.

Don’t get me wrong; back in the day Pearl Jam was all over my Discman. But considering I haven’t even bothered to put Ten on my iPod, I’m sure as hell not going to spend a couple of hours playing a stupid game so I can hear them through computer speakers. But if you want to, go nuts: http://www.pearljamtengame.com/

If you’re dying to get that cassette tape, the reissue sets go on sale March 24, with pre-orders already going strong.

And the best news? The reissue is only part one of the 2-year celebration. Stay tuned for part deux.
