Sylvia Ji is a San Fransico native (DON’T CALL IT FRISCO) currently located in Southern California. There’s a running theme throughout all of her work, even when those vintage models don’t have the badass skull facepaint going on, they ooze a certain dark sexuality. Ji is young, having just received her BFA in 2005, and definitely has a big future on “the scene.” Back in April
we told you to go to her exhibition at
Corey Helford Gallery, you should listen to us.

holy jesus (satan), Dave MacDowell may just be the new king of pop (rest in pieces, M.J.). i was lucky enough to see David MacDowell’s The Sins of Atticus Finch show at Thinkspace a couple months ago, and the more i see of his portfolio of jumbled up pop schizophrenia, the more i laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh all crazy like while talking to myself. there is plenty of more wonderful-ness on his website here, and you can read his blog here to read about the methods behind his particular brand of madness. preach on, mad pop genius. preach on.

Amazing! Mr.
Callahan creates classy imagery for his own,
Barf Comics as well as clients such as
Obey, Toxico, various skateboard companies, clothing companies and musicians. If only we all had the sensibilities to create slimy booger creatures and make a career out of it, the world would be a better place, and offices wouldn’t be so gun-to-your-head-earth-tone-neutral.

Not only does this guy make sweet art work, but he’ll draw YOUR portrait for $19. It’s got a retro-steampunk feel to it. Does that work for y’all? Good.
Here’s his print shop.
Here he is on Deviant Art.
And here’s his website.

Mr. Francavilla’s artwork is a lot of fun. I came across him while performing some digital pack-rattery over at
Fuck Yeah, Batman. His comic illustrations aren’t just run-of-the-mill page filler, they ooze with personality and style. Kind of reminiscient of the old-school. Remember The Hardy Boys? I do. Does that make me
gay? Anyway, look at the way he conveys Batman, sweet:

Be sure to go check out his website and his blog for more.
