If you’re into penis cartoons and lactating boobies, this one’s for you! Check out his site to learn more about the ridiculous human being that is, Todd James.

Artist to Admire: Iain Macarthur.

October 22nd, 2009

Wow, thanks to Peter Nidzgorski’s always great tumblog: This Isn’t Happiness for introducing me to Iain Macarthur’s work. The style of portrait sketching combined with ink and computer graphic retouching works wonderfully. The future is now kids! (oh FYI he’s 23, bright future? nahh beginner’s luck)

Artist to Admire: Los Fokos.

September 29th, 2009

Ahh another hometown hero. Alejandro Fuentes, aka Los Fokos, is a born and bred Los Angeleno who still lives and works in the city. He has an amazing eye for color, impressive technical skillz (a lot of these images appear to blend photos and drawings seamlessly), a list of A+ clients and an even more impressive portfolio. Check it out (more imagery after the jump):

Artist to Admire: Sir Mike Mitchell.

September 17th, 2009

I was poking around my old bookmarked links and noticed Sir Mike added some new work to his website (check it out, it’s incredible and worth your time). He’s a wildly talented painter with a sly sense of humor… a rabbit leading a rabbit with a carrot? A bird using a jetpack? A person dressed as a squirrel walking a dog?

Miss precoce feroce, WTTD’s own lovely win0, previously bragged about her own Mike Mitchell purchases a while ago. Time to go back to his shop, he’s on his last run of T-shirts and new posters have been added. More imagery after the jump:

Artist to Admire: Hylton Warburton.

August 19th, 2009

Mr. Warburton is a South African illustrator/designer who keeps claiming he’s just “messing around” (go ahead, rub it in)…he’s got a penchant for silly monsters. Check the guy’s skillz:

Artist to Admire: El Mac.

August 10th, 2009

El Mac. Known for his amazing renditions of hot chicks, meticulous attention to detail, and the “how is that possible?” things he does with spraypaint. Operating as “The Mac” since the mid 90s, he’s also the coverboy for this month’s Juxtapoz and there’s a lengthy interview inside. Check out the video interview here.

BONUS: He’s got an upcoming exhibition in LA with his sometimes-partner Retna (we’ll remind you):

Artist To Admire: Olly Moss.

June 30th, 2009

sadly, i came to Olly Moss through hipster swine indie multiconglomerate Threadless, but to his credit, Moss’ In Case Of Zombies design was the very first Threadless shirt to hook me in like heroin way back when… Threadless has kind of lost its way over the last couple years, but Moss is still right on track.
Moss takes a big ol’ spoonful of influence from Saul Bass‘ iconic movie poster and title design work, and spices it all up with a heaping dash of clever. really, his whole porftolio from prints to graphics to t-shirts is wonderfully sardonic, whimsical stuff, and i wish i could post it all, but instead you’re going to have to go to his website to see that this Moss sure gathers a lot of rock! ha! Moss? rock? ’cause… the… rock gathers no… his name is… oh fucking forget it.
anyways, you all know how much i like art that celebrates my sadly misspent childhood. now it’s “culturally relevant”! so go to his site and buy stuff.

(p.s. for a fun game, if you look through the models on the Threadless site, you’ll find an ex-gf of jesus satan…. but i’m not tellin’ who. i’ll leave that up to the police to figure out… ahhh, internet. when will you let me escape my past?)
