El-P dishes back Vast Aire’s generous portion of beef…
August 27th, 2009
Lets blow the dust off the old Hip-Hop Feud folder for a minute and insert a new, more dangerous page of street music warfare being executed around the mean streets of Myspace. The prodigious co-front man of independent NY hip-hop label Def Jux (oops… Definitive Jux) El-P has responded rather poetically to a rambling, CAP LOCKED Vast Aire (see Cannibal Ox) Myspace rant, who was in turn responding to a vicious, apparently unwarranted Myspace attack from Cage as well as Vast’s own little F.U. to El-P and the Def Jux family as a whole. The feud is tied together by the payment of respect to the memory of Camu Tao. In a former life El, Vast, Camu and Cage were all, at one time or another, members of the legendary supergroup Weathermen with individually dope artists Jakki da Motamouth, Copywrite and Aesop Rock, amongst others. Money, greed, a 1 year memorial post for Camu Tao by Cage and all that corrupts the otherwise irreproachable world of underground hip-hop eventually led to this…. which eventually led to the “Crossover Ambassador” EL-P’s poetic summary of a family of amateur Weather forecasters who couldn’t predict their own individual fates.

The face of a vegetarian Weatherman... EL-P
