The Decemberists Hazards of Love with video accompaniment at Royce Hall UCLA

this one pretty much sells itself, Angelenos. there is a presale this morning at 10:00 am PST via the Decemberists website (link here) for a live performance of the Hazards of Love album from beginning to end with video accompaniment, as is the vogue with indie superstars these days. it all goez downz at Royce Hall on the UCLA campus on October 19th. (pretty close to jesus satan’s birthday, folks. hint, hint, wink, wink.)
they’re also touring the rest of the US for the most part playing the whole album, but all y’all get left out from the trippy visuals and cartoonz. so sorry, America, once again Los Angeles rulz and the rest of the United States drulz. so fcuking-A if Jarvis Cocker isn’t the coolest nerd alive and he’s playing L.A. for the first time in it seems like forever at the Wiltern tonight. Cocker was largely responsible for the amazingness that was Pulp, and his live set at Pitchfork in the sweltering Chicago heat last year was something to behold (mind you that mods do NOT wear shorts). (p.s. if any of you crazy kids out there have a copy that set, could you get it to me? i want that house song he closed with soooo baaaddddd. i’ll be your best friend? well, not really, but i might talk to you if there aren’t any other kids around.)

Shellac is playing tonight and tomorrow night at the Echoplex. in his normal life front man Steve Albini is also a producer, and has been involved in a few albums you might have heard of, like Nirvana’s In Utero. but by night he’s in some of the most influential midwest punk bands out there, including Rapeman, Big Black and now Shellac. this is a three thumbs up show from jesus satan, the songs are meticulously excellent, and Albini and co. are always cracking wise, so it’s fun to watch even between the songs.
