here’s some new goofiness from the Yeasayer and directors Radical Friend team effort. more or less a sci-fi-ish accompaniment to the highly recommended Ambling Alp experience, O.N.E. is the second single off of their new album, Odd Blood. they’ll be back for Coachella (tickets here) if you missed them at Nat’l History Museum’s First Friday last month. (lord knows jesus satan did.)
Zooey Deschanel is so cute. i just want to punch her in those sweet little eyes. She & Him (i.e. Zooey and M. Ward) are playing around LA over the next month with shows at Largo (sold out), the El Rey (sold out) and the Glass House (sold out) to warm up for Coachella on the 16th, which is apparently the only way you’ll get to see them. or you can just watch the new video for In The Sun.
first Orbital has kissed and made up (gross! they’re brothers!) to play Coachella, and now Leftfield, who made two of the best electronic albums of all time OF ALL TIME!! is reforming for a headlining set at the Rockness Festival in merry olde England. here’s hoping they come to the states sometime soon thereafter… look out, world. big beat is coming out, so you better get this party started. (thanks, Mixmag. seriously.) and yes, above is John Lydon aka Johnny Rotten from the Sex Pistols singing techno.
i can’t tell you how impressed i am with the upcoming album by jónsi. it’s like hearing Sigur Rós all over again for the very first time, only upbeat and full of life and a bunch of lame shit like that. he’s just announced his 2010 US tour, and he hits Cali a couple other times in Berkeley and San Fran. check out the full schedule at his site here. more importantly, you’ll notice his name on the updated Coachella flyer right next to De La Soul on Sunday’s schedule. Sigur Rós’ debut at Coachella way back when was utterly disastrous, but it’s good to see that they’ve since made amends. also, Definition: Hopelandic: A made-up language consisting of gibberish words. shit, turns out we’ve been using Hopelandic here on WTTD for more than a year now.
Faith No More!!! fuck yes fuck yes fuck yes!!! they’re going to have trouble selling Saturday, but otherwise, hellz to the yeah, Coachella! break out the drugs, party people. jesus satan will see you in April. tickets go on sale Friday, Jan 22nd at 10am via Ticketmaster and the Coachella site.
here is the annual fake Coachella lineup for 2010 (thanks Los Anjealous). jesus satan will shit his pants if Faith No More is there, and i’m guessing that a lot of these other bands are actually pretty solid bets. The xx, Major Lazer, and Vampire Weekend are all a given. Public Image Ltd is a good possibility, as is Devo, The Antlers, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Imogen Heap and La Roux. i also wouldn’t be surprised about LCD Soundsystem and Massive Attack, both have new albums coming out this year - R.I.P. Jerry Fuchs : o (
it’s totally a guilty pleasure but i love the Ting Tings. everyone was giving me shit about seeing them at this year’s Coachella, but they were hands down one of the standout performances, and i have little doubt that they will do a headlining show at Club Nokia quite a bit of justice. (plus there will be a lot of hot preteen girls getting down and dancing around all slumber party pillow fight like. which is another guilty pleasure of mine, except this time with a LOT more emphasis on the ‘guilty’ part.) they’re playing with WTTD favs Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head and Hot Tub (whom i don’t like at all) as openers.

one of my favorite moments in Coachella history was Bauhaus’ reunion performance in 2005, with gothtastic frontman Peter Murphy entering the stage hanging upside down a la drah-coo-la while singing their epic Bela Lugosi’s Dead in its entirety. (that’s a long time to hang upside down, folks.) most everyone else in the world who tried something with that level of possible cheese factor would have crashed and burned, but i’m pretty sure that Murphy actually drinks human blood, and it simply laid the groundwork for an absolutely stellar performance from one of the most influential bands in the world. the set was amazing, Murphy is amazing, and this should be a performance to die for (hey! look at that! more goth jokes! it’s like shooting fish in a barrel, kids). Murphy is playing the House of Blues Sunset Strip tonight, and it’s a three thumbs up show from jesus satan.
hey there, honey... Peter Murphy "Light Pours Out Of Me" by Ken Aldridge...
