Photo Gallery: Monsters of Pop @ Gallery 1988.
TONIGHT: Gallery 1988 brings back that retro feeling with an opening for Monsters of Pop
Gallery 1988 is a little stuck in the past, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. WTTD fav Dave MacDowell is part of an all-star cast of pop sensations tonight with an opening at the LA Gallery 1988 on Melrose and La Brea. Netherland, Kiersten Essenpreis and Brandon Bird round out the retro appeal, so break out the acid wash jean jackets, and i’ll see you there. (check out our gallery of amazing from the recent Gallery 1988 Crazy 4 Cult show here…)
Artist To Admire: Dave MacDowell.
holy jesus (satan), Dave MacDowell may just be the new king of pop (rest in pieces, M.J.). i was lucky enough to see David MacDowell’s The Sins of Atticus Finch show at Thinkspace a couple months ago, and the more i see of his portfolio of jumbled up pop schizophrenia, the more i laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh all crazy like while talking to myself. there is plenty of more wonderful-ness on his website here, and you can read his blog here to read about the methods behind his particular brand of madness. preach on, mad pop genius. preach on.
Matthew Feyld, Dave MacDowell and a group show tonight
don’t forget peoples of the world, tonight is this amazing show with Matthew Feyld (meh) and Dave MacDowell (rad).

Matthew Feyld and Dave MacDowell next Friday @ Thinkspace. Flyer:

I’m getting kind of excited about the show, mainly because of this:
That’s Dave MacDowell, lot of Lowbrow/Pop Surrealism happenings in LA lately.
And Matthew Feyld’s work is just funny magic:
Definitely trying to make it to this one. Runs 03-13-09 through 04-03-09.
