Ennio Morricone – Theme from The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

To celebrate the release of Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, for which we anticipate smashing box office returns since nothing else worth seeing opens this weekend (X Games 3D: The Movie?), we are teaming up with Filter Magazine to give one lucky winner a copy of the film’s soundtrack along with some other goodies.

As evidenced by the eclectic soundtracks to such previous films as Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, and Kill Bill, Tarantino is a huge music fan and treats music as an important character in each of his films. He’s chosen hella awesome spaghetti western aficionado Ennio Morricone as his particular muse this time around, which should be a fairly amazing match to a WWII torture-porn-slash-comedy. Oh, and, uh, for some reason there’s a David Bowie song from that weirdo Cat People movie from the eighties. Quentin, Quentin… When will you stop trying so hard to be so cool? You had us at hello. See the tracklist below.

Also, if you’re in Los Angeles go visit Amoeba Records in Hollywood TONIGHT, August 20th. Tarantino is there for a special signing and an exclusive midnight screening of the highly anticipated film. Actually, unless you just want to look through the windows, don’t. It’s way sold out. WTTD just likes to tease.

Now then, as for our big deal contest:

One US Winner will receive: (we don’t ship outside of US)
-One special edition David Bowie 7″ vinyl for featured song, “Cat People”
-One copy of the official soundtrack on CD
-Two IB movie posters

The Green Leaves of Summer – Nick Perito
The Verdict – Ennio Morricone
White Lightning – Charles Bernstein
Slaughter – Billy Preston
The Surrender (La Resa)- Ennio Morricone

Davon Geht Die Welt Nicht Unter – Zarah Leander

Un Amico – Ennio Morricone

Listen Up: London based sextet (yow!) Fanfarlo’s album Resevoir out now in the US

July 15th, 2009

Fanfarlo, the London based indie/folk pop sextet has their debut album, Resevoir, out now in the US. Produced by Peter Katis (The National, Interpol), Fanfarlo sounds like David Byrne meets Arcade Fire. Lead Sweedish singer/ songwritter Simon Balthazar creates well-crafted, simple songs which make heavy use of trumpets, violins, guitars, drums, xylophones, saws (yes, saws) and banjos (yes, banjos). The entire album can be downloaded on iTunes currently for only $5.99 (a wise investment), and you can also check them out live at the Troubadour on September 15th. Even David Bowie claimed Fanfarlo one of his favorite new bands back in March (you realize I just name dropped David Bowie, which is why I’m able to keep this post short and sweet, like a chocolate covered midget).

The song below for “I’m A Pilot” speaks for itself.
