If you haven’t heard of www.typographyserved.com yet, do yourself a favor and get there. Some of these people are so talented it’s discouraging, so if you’re a fledgling artist be prepared to cry Seriously it’s a treat for the eyes… and if the site looks familiar that’s because it’s powered by behance, another popular creative network worth a look or 10.
this website for Ogasa Shin is chock full of amazing. if Francis Bacon had drawn anime, i think this is what it would have looked like. i can’t read, um, Asian, and all i have to go on about this guy/girl is that his/her name is Ogasa Shin. the website hasn’t been updated in a couple years, so maybe you budding internet Encyclopedia Browns out there can help a brother out and hunt him/her down to verify a) that he/she is still alive and 2) he/she is actually named Ogasa Shin. (more images after the jump, including some NSFW and one really fuckingBIG mother…)
i like it when cute things are scary and scary things are cute. so does Bobby Chiu. someone needs to hand this guy a Disney movie. more art after the jump.
Ahh another hometown hero. Alejandro Fuentes, aka Los Fokos, is a born and bred Los Angeleno who still lives and works in the city. He has an amazing eye for color, impressive technical skillz (a lot of these images appear to blend photos and drawings seamlessly), a list of A+ clients and an even more impressive portfolio. Check it out (more imagery after the jump):
Foggy paintings, femme fatales, surreal anatomy, and creepy sculptures… Check out our photos from last month’s wonderful 4-person exhibition @ La Luz de Jesus gallery in Hollywood:
holy jesus (satan), Dave MacDowell may just be the new king of pop (rest in pieces, M.J.). i was lucky enough to see David MacDowell’s The Sins of Atticus Finch show at Thinkspace a couple months ago, and the more i see of his portfolio of jumbled up pop schizophrenia, the more i laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh all crazy like while talking to myself. there is plenty of more wonderful-ness on his website here, and you can read his blog here to read about the methods behind his particular brand of madness. preach on, mad pop genius. preach on.

sadly, i came to Olly Moss through hipster swine indie multiconglomerate Threadless, but to his credit, Moss’ In Case Of Zombies design was the very first Threadless shirt to hook me in like heroin way back when… Threadless has kind of lost its way over the last couple years, but Moss is still right on track.
Moss takes a big ol’ spoonful of influence from Saul Bass‘ iconic movie poster and title design work, and spices it all up with a heaping dash of clever. really, his whole porftolio from prints to graphics to t-shirts is wonderfully sardonic, whimsical stuff, and i wish i could post it all, but instead you’re going to have to go to his website to see that this Moss sure gathers a lot of rock! ha! Moss? rock? ’cause… the… rock gathers no… his name is… oh fucking forget it.
anyways, you all know how much i like art that celebrates my sadly misspent childhood. now it’s “culturally relevant”! so go to his site and buy stuff.
(p.s. for a fun game, if you look through the models on the Threadless site, you’ll find an ex-gf of jesus satan…. but i’m not tellin’ who. i’ll leave that up to the police to figure out… ahhh, internet. when will you let me escape my past?)
I’ve been enjoying my Barcelonian friend’s work for some time now and just saw that Form Fifty Five (via twitter) did an interview with Mr. Trochut this week. His work is amazing and if you’re a designer yourself, the interview is worth 10 minutes of your time. He gives some advice, talks about his career and it’s beginnings, his style, typography, and he does it all in a funny accent.
“I think this interview will set the mood for the ones to follow, a unique look into the thinking and surroundings of some of the most inspiring individuals featured on FFF.”
Mr. Walters is a graphic designer who seems pretty comfy with retro compositions. His website has a lot of great stuff on it, but the main reason for this post are his amazing Wu Tang remix album covers. Here, he re-imagines the clan’s albums, Blue Note style:
