Wow. Check out Beyonce’s kid sister, Solange Knowles, flexing her golden pipes to the Dirty Projectors’ “Stillness is the Move”… she kills it. On top of Dre’s “XXplosive” beat no less. Damn this family has some genes. I know next to nothing about Solange but I feel bad for her…standing in the shadow of BEYONCE. The shadow of her ass alone is enough to keep you in the dark forever. Throw in the fact that she’s one of the biggest stars on the planet and one half of the biggest power couple on the planet (B and Jay are Hollywood’s top earning couple according to ABC news)… those are some big shoes to fill.

EDIT: revoking “I feel bad for her” …she’s a multi-millionaire dimepiece what the fuck was a thinking?
This is absolutely magnificent. No Mas hired artist James Blagden to animate the story of Dock Ellis’ 1970 no hitter… that he pitched while “high as a Georgia pine” on LSD. Proving that steroids aren’t the ONLY drug in baseball.

Paper Nikes by David Brownings. Just GLUE IT! …I’ll stop now.
Awesome money hats made from the world’s currency.
Jason Segal sings a hilarious song about trying to have sex with a Swell Season fan in LA. He includes his working phone number.
“Remember when I showed my penis in Forgetting Sarah Marshall? Well there were no special effects…”

New video for the title track off The Roots’ new album, How I Got Over, drops October 20th. Directed by BBGUN:
EDIT: Being that we’re on the subject of The Roots here, I was poking around Questlove’s twitter. They were playing on Jimmy Fallon the other night and the Dirty Projectors were there, so they were nice enough to give the Roots a little private session in their dressing room which was caught on tape. Watch it here! It’s well worth your time. We might be seeing them on stage together very soon.
“I’ve met all those dudes [at Pitchfork]. Fuck them,” Keller says. “They’re doing well, or at least Ryan. He doesn’t write anything; he just grades all the records. When you review records for Pitchfork, you don’t get to grade them. I was talking to Brett Gurewitz of Bad Religion, who got a good review but only a 3.0 rating. He called the reviewer and said, ‘Hey, thanks for giving my record a good review,’ and the kid said, ‘I got fired for it.’ ”
-Travis Keller, Buddyhead founder, who tells us how he really feels in this LA Weekly article.
This brings me to my point: I’m very excited to go see an original. Hate if you wanna, but Animal Collective really is the coolest thing since sliced bread and blue jeans…or in this case, flannel shirts and chuck T’s.
AnCo is performing this Friday and Saturday, August 14th and 15th in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park. Get tickets here and I’ll see you there.
Animal Collective – Daily Routine (Phaseone Remix)
Bonus Travis Keller quote:
“One reason Keller started Buddyhead was because he “didn’t really give a shit about anything on the Internet. People ask me to describe Buddyhead like, ‘Is it like Pitchfork?’ Well, yeah, if we were virgins and bed-wetters. I don’t have Steven Malkmus’ weenie in my mouth. I like Pavement but not that much.””
Mika Miko – I Got A Lot (New New New)
sorry children of the world, Dirty Projectors at the Troubadour is all sold out. so go see Mika Miko at The Smell with Ty Segall, Shark Toys and Charlie & the Moonhearts. especially since they are an “underground youth punk/noise band” according to Wikipedia. you wouldn’t want to miss being underground, would you? (just in case you feel like being underground, but just not tonight, then you can catch them again at the Smell on Friday, July 17th.)
Things they’ll have: “DODGEBALL, basketball, DJ’s, bands, burgers the works!”
Things you shouldn’t bring: Click here (funny ha ha).
PIRATE BAY: the good news is, The Pirate Bay four won’t be going to jail. The bad news is, in order to avoid this, TPB has been sold to the Swedish company Global Gaming Factory. This mean’s they will decentralize their servers and stop hosting trackers and torrents, moving to third parties for help. They will also be selling shares of the company on the Swedish market.

Diggers had this to say:
“The revolution is over. The RIAA/MPAA won. They’ll receive their $3.6 million and we’ll lose The Pirate Bay. TPB was for me, a little way of protesting. I laughed at the lobbyists every time I went there. I read the takedown notices many times. I felt like I was part of a movement that might actually force the corporate, greedy motherfuckers to consider adopting a new business model.
They’re fucking laughing at me now. It’s a sad day.”
VIBE: is done. It died alongside MJ. The Source stands alone. Oh yeah, and something called the internets.

MJ: Michael Jackson’s body will be taken to Neverland Ranch for a public viewing on Thursday, July 2nd. Plastic recylcing day is Friday, July 3rd, so get there fast! (hurrah).

This is all so sad, so let’s move on with some HAPPY THOUGHTs. White Denim’s new album, Fits, came out on the 22nd. I just got my copy, I suggest you get yours. Listen to this uncharacteristic track:
White Denim – “Sex Prayer”

Dirty Projectors released a music video for their song “Stillness is the Move”… it’s all over the “sphere” today, so here it is again. Watch out for a wandering llama and some silly sirens.
New single from Wolfmother, available for free download at wolfmother.com, which brings you to a Guitar Hero 5 promotion, which prompts you for name/address/email/etc… followed by thumbscan and DNA sample, really, it’s not worth it. A bland, mediocre track from a band that people are probably expecting too much from. Sophomore slump heeeere we come!
On a better note, literally, listen to the new Dirty Projectors album. Bold, inspired, stimulating, catchy stuff. But don’t take my word for it:
Dirty Projectors – Remade Horizon
Album-of-the-year top 10 lists heeeere we come!

I slid by this album a few weeks ago but hot damn, it’s fucking good. It was put together by Red Hot, an organization based out of NY that arranges albums to raise money for AIDS charities. So anyway, here’s the projected line up from Dark Was The Night’s site:
Sunday May 3 at Radio City Music Hall featuring several of the artists that contributed to the compilation including Dave Sitek, Dirty Projectors, Feist, My Brightest Diamond, The National, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings plus more to be announced in the coming weeks. Tickets will go on sale this Friday, March 13 at 11am via Ticketmaster. Dark Was The Night – Live begins at 8pm (doors will open at 7).
Since then we’ve heard David Byrne and Grizzly Bear will be joining in the ruckus, according to Feist. Who may or may not be lying. But that’d be mean. And I don’t picture her as a liar, her voice is too delicate for harsh words. Although I suppose that’s how they get ya… (seriously I don’t know who’s confirmed but it will be a great show regardless).
