I like his style. The album, The Slew: 100%, is tons of fun (seriously get it and just invite people over to drink whiskey with you) and Koala is giving it away for free on his website to get people excited for his tour. He’s playing gigs with the ex-Wolfmother drummer and bassist:

NOW THIS IS INDIE, ladies and germs, even if he was signed to a major. DJ Shadow has gone cuh-ray-zay and is slashing, slashing, SLASHING prices! buy now!everything must go! (not really, digital files can’t sell out.)
Shadow has updated his site to offer his complete history of singles, soundtracks, albums and remixes, downloadable direct from his own music store, and all at fairly bargain basement prices… for the collectors out there, he’s also offering a variety of goodies, including limited edition vinyl pressings.
what’s the big deal, you may ask? besides Shadow being utterly indispensable to any serious afficionado’s music collection (NO ONE’s music library should be without Endtroducing…) as well as to underground hip-hop in general, Shadow is taking what Radiohead began and is bringing it into the now, claiming himself as the first major label artist to offer direct sales, cutting out the middle man. in other words, no iTunes and no major labels milking their cut from his teet. i’m thinking that this info might pass gently into the night for some of you, but what it means to me is that the artists are learning to take control. more info directly from Shadow himself after the jump:
that Courtney Cruz… always bringing a little of the bad to wholesome little Los Angeles, and tomorrow night her Devil’s Playground burlesque troupe partakes in a particularly lascivious evening of Naughty Bedtime Stories burlesque with performances from world-famous fetish model Emily Marilyn, Gia Rose, Kitty Cadillac, Mia Vixen, Vamp Lorraine, and of course Miss Cruz herself. there are also raffles, and the evening is hosted by Smokin’ Mary Jane. Saturday night, August 8th, at Bordello.
go for the music, stay for the marijuana pasties...
the Electric Daisy Carnival festival hits (get it? hits? ecstasy? eh? eh?) tonight and tomorrow at the LA Memorial Coliseum and Sports Arena. so dust off those glow sticks for a fairly incredible electronica lineup with performances by Thievery Corporation, Paul Oakenfold, Groove Armada, ATB, Paul Van Dyk, Benny Benassi, Kaskade, Infected Mushroom, Roger Sanchez, Mark Farina, Boys Noize, Shiny Toy Guns (at a rave? weird), Simian Mobile Disco, Diplo (by himself AND with Major Lazer, i think… that’s what it looks like, anyway, but i’m not really sure), DJ AM, Dieselboy, DJ Hype, LTJ Bukem, Markus Schulz, Sander Van Doorn, Yoji, and just a whole fucking lot of other DJs. (sorry, sports fans. Fatboy Slim dropped out…)
i’ve never really heard of any of these guys but Scion is behind it and the flier is rad, plus it’s free, so they get a shout. tonight the Scion A/V -Trouble & Bass CD release tour hits The Echo with Drop The Lime, AC Slater, Star Eyes, DJ Skeet Skeet and The Captain. it might be too late, but hopefully you already RSVP’d here to get in like i told you to way back when.
you gotta hand it to these Chairlift kids. they’ve got plenty of energy (must be on uppers.) tonight they’re headlining a show at the Echo with Luke Top and The Frequency, followed by a Chairlift DJ set at Dance Right for the official afterparty with Mike Simonetti, IAMSOUND(SYSTEM), and DJ Pubes (grossest DJ name in America) on the wreck the tape decks at La Cita.
this Saturday they play a FREE show with Dublab DJs Frosty and Ale at the Getty for the more or less monthly Saturdays Off the 405 series (parking is free now, too!). and just in case you happened to miss all that (put down the bongs you lazy bastards), on Sunday they make a stop for another show at the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa. i hate overachievers.
so… Major Lazer. he’s a Jamaican commando who loses his arm in the zombie wars of 1984 and then is repurposed with experimental lazers as a new prosthetic limb. (or he’s actually Diplo working with Switch with Andy Milonakis guesting…) not much point in trying to be funny here when i am clearly out of my league. congratulations, Major Lazer, you win this round. but at what cost? amazing video from Major Lazer below.
if you want to see Major Lazer, they’re hitting L.A. for the Electric Daisy Carnival two-day festival (Friday June 26th and Saturday June 27th) at the LA Memorial Coliseum and Sports Arena. so dust off those glow sticks for a fairly incredible electronica lineup with performances by Thievery Corporation, Paul Oakenfold, Groove Armada, ATB, Paul Van Dyk, Benny Benassi, Kaskade, Infected Mushroom, Roger Sanchez, Mark Farina, Boys Noize, Shiny Toy Guns (at a rave? weird), Simian Mobile Disco, Diplo (by himself AND with Major Lazer, i think… that’s what it looks like, anyway, but i’m not really sure), DJ AM, Dieselboy, DJ Hype, LTJ Bukem, Markus Schulz, Sander Van Doorn, Yoji, and just a whole fucking lot of other DJs. i’ve never really heard of any of these guys but Scion is behind it and the flier is rad, plus it’s free, so they get a shout. June 24th the Scion A/V -Trouble & Bass CD release tour hits The Echo with Drop The Lime, AC Slater, Star Eyes, DJ Skeet Skeet and The Captain. you must RSVP here to get in, though.
tonight at La Cita, Dance Right lays down it’s weekly thang with oh-so-special musical guest and possible methamphetamine user DJ Hutz (lead singer Eugene Hutz from gypsy-punkists Gogol Bordello). DJ Pube$ is also on the record playing machines. as always, it’s free with RSVP here.
flamingoes, death, and tacos... pretty much sums up my plans for Cinco De Mayo.
This little jam got put together last minute and it’s gonna be epic! 1000 tacos will be made for the event and I will be kicking out the jams. Starts at 5pm so you can be stuffed on tacos and hammered by 7:30. Come on out! This is at the Los Feliz (Hollywood Blvd) location NOT the Beverly one. Hope to see you there.
