a bunch of j. satan’s fav newish bands are hitting sunny Los Angeles so yay for me! The Smith Westerns and Best Coast are opening for the stellar Cold Cave tonight and tomorrow at the Glasshouse in Pomona and at the Echoplex in Echo Park respectively. AVI Buffalo (meh… not so great live, though i do like their studio music) also opens tonight at the Glasshouse. both shows are all ages but whaddayagonnado? this is a three thumbs up show from jesus satan, the show this last December in Eagle Rock was painfully short, but well worth the drive nonetheless.
there hasn’t been this much buzz about a band since Crystal Castles (fuck Wavves, they don’t count). your next favorite band Cold Cave is hitting the West Coast tonight (tickets here) with a show at the Center For The Arts in Eagle Rock. it’s only ten bucks (eight in advance), and they’re giving away hand made mix tapes to the first hundred kids (yes, tapes are apparently cool again. god it just never stops does it hipster swine?) local heroes Abe Vigoda and Former Ghost are opening. tomorrow night they’re hitting the Casbah in San Diego (tickets here) if you feel like a road trip, and then they’re back in L.A. on Sunday at the Echo for Part Time Punks. Nite Jewel opens (tickets here). i’m guessing that all of the above will sell out, so get your tickets in advance, suckas. for reals.
hey! in the mood for Animal Collective but not willing to pay outrageous bigshot prices for traveling to wherever it is in the world that they are? great! have i got the show for you! tonight 60 Watt Kid plays the Echo with Best Coast and Gowns. they have plenty of good rapport about town for good live shows and stuff, and even a low-rent version of Animal Collective is still better than no Animal Collective.

Los Angeleno collective Dublab are celebrating ten years of booty shaking, indie films and other artistic pursuits with ten nights of events scheduled in October, starting tonight and continuing through to the tenth. there are performances from Jimmy Tamborello (aka Dntel of Postal Service fame), Daedelus and Dr. Strangeloop, and a ton of other local celebrity types. more information here. i’ll most likely see you at Part Time Punks at the Echo (1822 Sunset Blvd) Sunday and Give Up at Cinefamily Monday (611 North Fairfax). i saw Tamborello do a set at a Give Up-style anti-Valentine night at the Echo way back when and it was hilarious because everyone was acting all depressed and heartbroken and stuff. heartbreak makes me laugh. ha!…. ha… heh…. : o (
The Pains of Being Pure At Heart are reprising the Spaceland show they had a couple months back as opener for White Denim as the big shot headliners this time at the Echo tonight. big buxxom buzz on the band who i have to admit has a super cute indie rock kind o’ name. they also have JUST A LITTLE BIT OF A MORRISEY INFLUENCE (and by A LITTLE BIT, i mean A FCUKING LOT), but i like ‘em ok, Morrisey douchebaggery aside. Girls open up. (trying so hard not to make a joke right now…)

Viva Voce are bringing their family affair to the Echo tonight. i keep expecting amazing things from these two, even though they never seem to hit it big… they have a really wonderful, dreamlike atmosphere to their music, kind of like nodding off in front of the TV while you’re way too high (which is a good thing).
meh… Club Suicide sucked last time i went because of the crowd… bunch of creepy guys wearing sunglasses at night and rubbing their noses a lot and pointing out chicks to their “bros”. still, this will probably be off the hook because it’s the one year anniversary and there are quote unquote Sexy Suicide Girls Go-Go Dancers. seems easier to just go to a strip club, but whatev… tonight at the Echoplex with DJ Scotty Boy and DJ Erick Neutron.
