it’s sad, but even as beautiful as this is, i just don’t have the patience for an eleven minute video anymore. people used to bitch about tv making everyone all ADD, but the internet has just KILLED it. music by Jacaszek (who all you New Yorkers just missed at the Unsound Festival), video directed by Marc Silver (who has a ton more videos on his site. Ageless Sex is particularly uplifting/disturbing).
Previously, we hit you people in the balls with the amazing announcement of Them Crooked Vultures‘ inaugural flight which, sadly, wasn’t stopping in NY or LA. Wellll that has changed my friends, we’re hitting you in the balls AGAIN, much harder this time, with a NY tour date! If you’re a chick, lucky you… no ovary punching… yet.
The super-band (comprised of Josh Homme (vocals/guitar for Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss, Eagles of Death Metal), Dave Grohl (drums for Foo Fighters, Nirvana) and motherfuckin John Paul Jones (bass for Led Zeppelin)) has added a single NY tour date:
October 15th @ NYC – Roseland Ballroom. And I almost don’t want to tell you this but here’s some insider info…
Presale starts Thursday, September 24th at 4pm EST here!
Password: VULTURES
Tickets go on sale to the public Saturday, September 26th at Noon EST.
A very limited number of tickets will be sold free of service charges at the Fillmore New York at Irving Plaza box office beginning at the time of the public onsale.
Here they are teasing us with “Nobody Loves Me and Neither Do I”:
finally, L.A. has a festival worthy of Pitchfork status. the F Yeah Festival (previously the Fuck Yeah Fest) has gone even more wuss and titled themselves the FYF Fest this year, but what they are lacking in balls they have more than made up for with a crazy gigantor lineup of indie superstars, and yes, ‘indie superstars’ is totally a contradiction in terms…
tomorrow is the day, and the show is being headlined by The Black Lips, Tim & Eric, and Lightning Bolt, plus a ton of other WTTD favs like No Age, The Thermals, Glass Candy, Mika Miko, Crystal Antlers, Telepathe, Peanut Butter Wolf, Har Mar Superstar, and (TINT fav) Wavves, who is, hilariously, WAYYYYY down on the list. there are a ton of other acts, too. you can see the posted lineup, set times, etc., at the FYF site.
and all this for a whopping twenty bucks? FUCK YEAH! oh, i mean FY! they’re also saying that it’s a “Save Our State Parks Festival”, and i’m not sure exactly if money is supposed to go to the state parks or whatever because the site says they’re just raising ‘awareness’, which is a little sketchy. there is a whole dollar being added for charity, though. so i guess they’re doing more than i am. well fuck that. no one outclasses jesus satan, FYF Fest! here. now i’m raising awareness.
Comprised of Josh Homme (vocals/guitar for Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss, Eagles of Death Metal), Dave Grohl (drums for Foo Fighters, Nirvana) and motherfuckin John Paul Jones (bass for Led Zeppelin), Them Crooked Vultures have announced an upcoming tour that doesn’t hit NEW YORK OR LOS ANGELES. Fuckers. But I’m so excited for the group itself that I feel compelled to post this amazing teaser video, see more at their youtube channel.
The Walkmen’s new video for On The Water from Nirben Jacob is probably the most amazing thing i’ve ever seen. (’cept maybe boobies.) they’re touring around, hitting San Fran for the Treasure Island Festival in October with Flaming Lips, MGMT and The Decemberists amongst others, so it wouldn’t surprise me much if they took a little detour to L.A. soon thereafter.

Underworld – Crocodile (Live – London Roundhouse 28.02.2008)
UPDATE* NEWS AND VIDEO FROM THE SHUT DOWN OF HARD FEST BY THE INGLEWOOD POLICE DEPT IS INCLUDED IN THE COMMENTS BELOW*
Underworld is one of my top ten, hands fucking down, and they’re headlining a stellar lineup for Hard Fest this coming Saturday that includes, oh, you know, just a couple of acts you may have heard of, like Crystal Castles, Amanda Blank (who is about to be fcuking huge), Rye Rye (ditto), The Bloody Beetroots, Chromeo (i can’t stand ‘em personally, but i know how much the ladies love them. and jesus satan isn’t above a little pretense when it comes to the ladies…), A-Trak, Crookers, WTTD homeboy Steve Aoki (not really… he’s probably never even heard of us but he IS in a picture here in the WTTD galleries, so it counts…), Tiga, Destructo, etc. etc. etc. blah blah blah… look what it comes down to is that there will be lots of DRUGS AND ECSTASY AND GHB because there is electronic music, which is probably all i really need to say. see you there. the festival hits, drops and other double entendres at the Forum in Inglewood. more info here.
The Silversun Pickups, who just played a “secret show” in LA last Wednesday, are taking the show on the road. Another secret show approacheth in NYC this Friday. To enter, all ya gotta do is email this guy at I Heart Radio here on Wednesday July 29th. Silversun will also be at the All Points West Festival in New York this Sunday, August 2nd.
methinks thoueth dotheth protesteth tooeth mucheth for publicitieth… lots of rumors (i doubt that) circulating the web that Dan Deacon does acid because of this old crack job viral video from director Liam Lynch for his song Drinking Out Of Cups. at least enough for him to spew the diatribe included. please don’t get me wrong, i love me some Deacon, but i’ll tell you what, if he and/or Lynch weren’t on drugs of any kind while making this song and/or video, then he probably has some fairly schizophrenic tendencies. so how’s THAT for a rumor, Deacon?
below is a copy and paste of Deacon’s MySpace bulletin via Pitchfork (thanks guys, as always. have fun at your little festival this coming weekend. you’ll be in my thoughts!):
the video for ‘drinking out of cups’ (2003 meetle mice) seems to be going viral again, this time in the comedy world. sara silverman posted it on her twitter and ‘opie and anthony’ discussed it on their radio show. there is an amazing amount of disinformation and completely wrong information about this piece and i just want to clear some things up.
in 2002 i recorded myself watching television with the sound off doing a character that was meant to embody long island culture (where i grew up). i was NOT on acid when i made this piece. i have NEVER DONE ACID.
while i have no problem with psychedelics and think that they are important to human culture, i do want it to be known that i was not on any psychedelics or any drugs while making this piece. it was all stream of conscience, reacting to watching the tv, changing the channels, with the sound of, talking to it as if it were a person communicating back to me.
the track was on my 2003 album meetle mice. in 2005 or 2006 liam lynch came across the track as it was getting passed around on message boards and file sharing sites. he contacted me about making a video for it and about using my song ‘big big big big big’ as the theme song to his podcast show. i love liams work and of course said yes. the video has grown in popularity to the point where i get fan mail from soliders in iraq, blog about my celebrity comedians and its gotten 2.8 million views on youtube.
this is all great and whatever but i want people to know this video was created without drugs or acid. i’m glad that people like the video but lets just make this perfectly clear:
1. I WAS NOT ON ACID WHILE MAKING THIS VIDEO
2. I WAS NOT LOCKED IN THE CLOSED AND BEING RECORDED
3. I RECORDED THE TRACK 100% SOBER
4. I USED THE TRACK A SCHOOL PROJECT AS A SOLO VOICE/TAPE PIECE
5. I HAVE NEVER DONE ACID, AND LIKE JEFF LEWIS, NO I DON’T WANT ANY ACID, THANK YOU
6. YES, THAT IS ME TALKING AND I WROTE THE PIECE
7. ITS A CHARACTER SATIRIZING LONG ISLAND STEREOTYPES
8. THE SONG CAME OUT IN 2003
9. THE VIDEO CAME OUT IN 2006
its really insane to me that i have been the subject of two separate viral videos that exist simultaneously inside and outside of my music career. the internet is a strange place. i don’t really know how i feel about this kind of stuff. while my work is weird and some what “experimental” its not that weird or that “experimental” where it should cause so much confusion and bewilderment among the mainstream audiences that it comes across. but i guess thats what happens when anything is out of the immediate ordinary.
anyway, thanks for taking the time to read this. please stick up for me if you see on message boards or youtube comment sections or anywhere if you see it being stated that i am on acid while making that piece. i made the piece to be funny and a piece of absurd humor. it was edited down and crafted with care. while it seems like a mindless ramble, some time and effort went into making it. if that ads or distracts from the piece so be it, it wasn’t meant to be a process piece and i never thought i’d be explaining it or that it would be seen by nearly 3 million people.
i guess i should just be glad so many people enjoy it. however, to have it be stated that i was on acid time and time again takes away from any of the creative process i put into the piece. i’m not sure i’m getting my point across but i am tired of writing this and need to get back to work on whartscape. love you all.

This is our final update on the Pitchfork 2K9 schedule, barring any last second changes. Our previous update was missing a lot of these bands, plus the time schedule and stages weren’t listed yet. This should be the final lineup (*Updates are in bold):
The concert takes place on July 17th – July 19th in Chicago’s Union Park. They’ve added some great bands, The Thermals, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Beirut… this has shaped up to be an amazing event. At this point, tickets for Sunday are SOLD OUT. So are two-day passes. There are limited tickets left for Friday and Saturday so if you still wanna be one of the cool kids, get tix here. More info here.
