Thom Yorke, Michael Stipe, The National and More, Join Forces for Super-Tribue-Album.

June 25th, 2009

I’ll be honest, I don’t know much about Mark Mulcahy, but wikipedia does. He was the frontman for Miracle Legion and Polaris who were responsible for the music and theme song of Nickelodeon’s, The Adventure’s of Pete & Pete…. Yes. That I know much about.

I’m guessing it’s because he was part of such an amazing television show that he’s got an amazing cast of famous musician bros. His wife just died, leaving him to care of 3 year old twins, so his musical-bro-posse put together a tribute/benefit album for the guy. Awww.

Ciao My Shining Star: The Songs of Mark Mulcahy is due out September 29th. Seriously, amazing talent involved, here’s the tracklist:

01 Thom Yorke: “All for the Best”
02 The National: “Ashamed of the Story I Told”
03 Michael Stipe: “Everything’s Coming Undone”
04 David Berkeley: “Love’s the Only Thing That Shuts Me Up”
05 Dinosaur Jr.: “The Backyard”
06 Chris Harford and Mr. Ray Neal: “Micon the Icon”
07 Frank Black: “Bill Jocko”
08 Vic Chesnutt: “Little Man”
09 Unbelievable Truth: “Ciao My Shining Star”
10 Butterflies of Love: “I Have Patience”
11 Chris Collingwood of Fountains of Wayne: “Cookie Jar”
12 Frank Turner: “The Quiet One”
13 Rocket From the Tombs: “In Pursuit of Your Happiness”
14 Ben Kweller: “Wake Up Whispering”
15 Josh Rouse: “I Woke Up in the Mayflower”
16 Autumn Defense: “Paradise”
17 Hayden: “Happy Birthday Yesterday”
18 Juliana Hatfield: “We’re Not in Charleston Anymore”
19 Mercury Rev: “Sailors and Animals”
20 Elvis Perkins: “She Watches Over Me”
21 Sean Watkins: “A World Away From This One”

Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa plays clean-up with upcoming shows like Black Lips and Frank Black from the Pixies

May 1st, 2009

a while back Ulrich Schnauss was bringing his utterly gordeous soundscapes to sunny Los Angeles at the Troubadour and i was super excited. problem was, it was sold out! so then i was super depressed. what’s a hot young thing like jesus satan to do? well, good thing i remembered about this amazing venue in Costa Mesa called The Detroit Bar, which often runs a show the night before or after from hipster swine and electronica bands that have just hit L.A. so i made the trek down and saw an incredibly amazing show with only about forty to fifty other kids and it was oh-so-romantic. to be honest, it’s not often that i’ll do the drive, but there is almost always a good band playing down there when i do… check out these upcoming shows, for instance, from the Black Lips, Adam Freeland, Grand Duchy (featuring Frank Black from the Pixies), Frankie Bones and Helmet. keep it up, Detroit Bar. keep it RIIIIGHHHHTTTT up.
