This Saturday: Chaka Opens at Mid-City Arts.

April 23rd, 2009

“Mid-City Arts is pleased to present the first solo show ever from the infamous LA graffiti artist, Chaka. Resurrection opens April 25th and will feature highly anticipated new work from the mysterious Chaka.”

This looks pretty bad-ass, not only is Chaka a Los Angeles legend… causing upwards of 500K in property damage while spreading his name…but he’s also a hard-to-catch kind of dude. As you can imagine by the lifestlye he lives as a widespread graffiti artist. So seeing him in person, SIGNING AUTOGRAPHS no less, is a rare opportunity. Should be a very cool show. It’s Chaka’s FIRST SHOW EVER. Info below the imagery:

Loss and Sub-Par Grooming in Hollywood

April 21st, 2009

LOST COMB LOST!

Do your part! Save this comb!

Do your part! Save this comb!

These fliers were posted up and down Hollywood Blvd this morning.

Unnatural obsession with hygiene?

Weird guerrilla marketing stunt?

Secret communiqué from alien invaders?

Non-conformist raving lunatic who refuses to use the universally-accepted Raving Lunatic Scrawl font?

Your guess is as good as mine.

I’m too lazy and protective of my email address (ok, mostly lazy) to send the perpetrator of this nonsense an email. Surely someone out there is more motivated than I am. If that someone is you, send an email to lostcomblost@gmail.com and find out what the hell this is all about. Then post your findings in the comments so the rest of us can reap the benefits of your labor.

Full flier text (for the curious and/or hard-of-seeing):

TINT Goes To South America!

April 12th, 2009

Eyyo kiddos. TINT is blogging from Buenos Aires, Argentina. That’s right, Wreck The Tape Deck has officially become international. Congratulations to us!

It took 4 planes to take me from Los Angeles to here. I landed in a lightning storm in Atlanta and hugged an old Chilean man for good luck. My bags followed me a day late.

This is officially my first full day of the trip. I’m gonna do my best to post everyday but obviously priority numero uno will be making the most of B.A. (aka: sloppily hitting on 15 yr old girls celebrating a quinceniera). I apologize in advance for all the incoherent drivel you’re gonna have to suffer through with Jesus Satan in charge of the blog. But don’t fret! I’ll be making my return to the glorious land of the brave on 4/20… with Jimmy Cliff on blast. Should make for an interesting workday.

Anyway, I’ll be taking pictures, checking out the lifestyle and catching some art/music. I hear there’s quite an urban-street art scene here. Here’s what I’ve seen so far:

polar-bears

Adios for now. Catch me on the tweet tip.

(In other news: Woody Harrelson mistook a photographer for a zombie on Wednesday night.)

Ooooh he's got that Herron flow!

Willie Herron, old time hipster/chicano/muralist, is debuting new paintings along with old footage, drawings, photos and prints that put together a history of LA in the 70s and 80s. Of course, free booze.
