tonight WTTD pal and internet pin-up queen Courtney Cruz brings a sexy reprise of her Star Wars themed stripperella show to the Henry Fonda theater. for plenty more naughtiness from other Devil’s Playground shows, including Video Game Girls and Fetish Girls, check out our gallery section here. tickets aren’t available anymore online, but there are plenty at the door. jesus satan will see you there. (*UPDATE – this was all sold out and jesus satan did NOT see you there. congratulations Courtney!)
Ok Go is playing the Music Box at Henry Fonda Theater (get your tickets here tomorrow), and i don’t really care too much about that, but it gives me a chance to post their awesome This Too Shall Pass videos that are such a big deal all over the internets and worlds wides webseses. here is the new one:
and here’s the older one, which isn’t executed nearly as well, but it’s still pretty damn neat.
presales seem pretty fucking stupid for general admission venues, kind of misses the point when it’s not assigned seating or Radiohead selling out some tiny club in five seconds. regardless, there’s a presale today at 10am for Broken Social Scene’s May 3rd show at the Henry Fonda / Music Box. so that’s exciting. really, actually, they’re great live. the presale password is… (whispers) BROKEN. get your tickets here. (hey! i know that goth kid!)
Mew is amazing every time i see them and they’re playing the Henry Fonda tonight with The Outline. tickets are still available here at a decent price of only $18, so if you aren’t already committed to Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, then these boys are a fine alternative.
old-school punk bands from Chicago equals awesome. the unstoppable force of Jesus Lizard singer David Yow were legendary in my hometown, ao don’t waste this chance to see them since they broke up a while ago because they were old and not making any money until that Touch and Go anniversary show got ‘em back together but who knows for how long? hitting the Henry Fonda tonight.
Passion Pit sold out a grip of shows here in Los Angeles a while back, so they’re going to grace us with their presence once more with a show tonight at the Henry Fonda. i like them, actually. everyone does. they’re just soooooooo popular. big fcuking whoop, Passion Pit. oooh, so everyone’s your friend? so everyone likes you? well you’ll get yours, Passion Pit. i didn’t want to be your friend, anyway.
ha, i love internet searches. turns out there is a Loverboy song named 'Passion Pit', and i'm guessing that's what they're named after. well played, Passion Pit. well played.
reunited and it feels so fine. i guess that Foo Fighters thing never really worked out, as Sunny Day Real Estate is playing the Henry Fonda / Music Box tonight with all original members. has anyone told Dave Grohl? boy, his bands just never seem to find any success… this is a three thumbs up, highly recommended show from jesus satan. see you there.
Charlatans UK – Nine Acre Dust (Chemical Brothers Remix)
yeah i kind of remember these guys kind of. surprisingly The Charlatans UK never broke up, and they were touring the US for probably the first time in a really long time probably like since the nineties or something i don’t know i’m too tired to look it up why don’t you do it for once? but anyways it doesn’t matter because one of them had to get surgery for being old or something, and they’ve cancelled their US tour. sorry Brit Pop fans, but i’m sure you’re used to disappointment anyway. disappointment, after all, is all your bands sing about!
sharing a pen-shant for all-capital-letter names but eschewing the pretentiousness that is YACHT, Los Angeles promised-peoples HEALTH are playing the Troubadour (9081 Santa Monica, 90069) tonight on their headlining lonesome as a quick addendum for their opening slots on the last two Nine Inch Nails’ performances ever this week.
surprisingly, the show still has tickets available, so get ‘em here, and be sure to get there early to catch Pictureplane, Mi Ami and Dam-funk so that you can tell me what they sound like because i’ve never heard of any of them. here’s a new video from HEALTH for the single Die Slow. they even directed it themselves, those hipster swine show-offs…
Mew is playing a grip of shows around town the next few days, but good luck seeing them. tonight they’ll be debuting a couple new music videos and doing a special live performance (i.e. a few songs) for a Microsoft-sponsored event called “Mewseum” at Zune L.A. (8275 Beverly Blvd). tomorrow night they’re headlining a sold-out show at the Troubadour (jesus satan will be at this one), and then Wednesday night and Thursday night they open up for two of Nine Inch Nails’ four last shows ever; Wed at the Palladium (jesus satan will be at this one, too) with Qween Kwong, and Thurs at the Henry Fonda. of course, both of these shows are TOTALLY sold out (obviously), so your best bet is probably the Zune thing tonight from 7pm-10, which at the very least is free to not get into. email mewseum@sonymusic.com to try to get on the list.
