De La Soul are NOT hippies

January 15th, 2010

de la soul sb high nike dunks shoes three 3 feet high and rising

yep. De La Soul 3 Feet High and Rising shoes. amazing.

hey, hipster swine, the only thing the eighties was good for was hip-hop, so remember that next time you’re getting all dressed up in your neon tights. De La Soul’s 3 Feet High and Rising used to be something amazing and new, and even if it didn’t end up changing the world, it shure changed mine… it turns out that the release is a phat twenty years old now, so happy belated birthday and much respect. (man, i really miss sampling. way to ruin everything recording industry. you are the destroyers of all that is good.)

View Kayne West’s Short Film Directed by Spike Jonze, “We Were Once a Fairytale”

October 19th, 2009

This 11-minute short film from Spike Jonze has been a long time coming… way before Kanye ‘gay fish’ West made one of the greatest interruptions OF ALL TIME, the hype was starting to surround this video (not really a music video, although it features “See You In My Nightmares” with a giddy blacked-out kanye singing and stumbling along). It was supposed to debut in early September but I’ll venture to guess that he wanted to wait until the Taylor Swift fiasco died down, or combine the release with Spike Jonze’s Wild Things flick? Either way, a drunk Kanye is a hilarious Kanye, oh and he PULLS A LITTLE FUCKING MONKEY OUT OF HIS INTESTINES, I’M NOT KIDDING, please proceed:

NEW VIDEO: Drake ft. Kanye, Lil’ Wayne, & Eminem – “Forever”

September 23rd, 2009

drake-forever-lil-wayne-kanye-west-eminem-lebron-james
I’ve heard of the upcoming LeBron James documentary, More Than A Game, (coming October 2nd) but I’m still not sure why it exists… isn’t it a little early to start making movies about the dude’s life at this point? It’s like making a film about TINT’s rise to the top of the hipster kingdom… jeez at least wait til I get there. Last time I checked LBJ doesn’t even have a ring soo let’s all hold off on the BJ’s for a second. If you’re interested, you can listen to King James talk about the flick here… apparently it’s focused on his High School career or something.

Anyway, since this is basketball and not hockey, the film will have a G’d up hip hop soundtrack. The video below is the latest from Hype Williams for Drake’s song, “Forever” featuring. Kanye West, Lil’ Wayne, & Eminem, it’s the featured song for the movie… I don’t really get the “hype” behind Hype Williams, I mean besides “Belly” and “California Love” I think he basically wallows in mediocrity, am I right? Oh and I can’t forget Missy Elliot’s “The Rain”… fantastic. And Nas’s “Hate Me Now”… haha and he made Busta Rhymes “Woo Hah!” ok I get it, he’s a master of the fisheye.

The Black Keys Collaborate with a Cast of Hip Hop All-Stars: Welcome to BLAKROC!

September 16th, 2009

Blakroc – Coochie ft. Mos Def & Jim Jones

black keys - blakroc artists
Over the course of 11 days, The Black Keys got together with 11 Hip Hop legends, to lay down 11 tracks in a Brooklyn studio…which will come together to comprise an eargasmic album titled, Blakroc. Get excited because what I’ve seen and heard so far is amazing.

With the help of Damon Dash, the Keys were able to get Mos Def, RZA, Raekwon, Q-Tip, Ludacris, Pharoahe Monch, M.O.P.’s Billy Danze, Jim Jones, and the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard to come rhyme for them (well… ODB didn’t really go anywhere or actually do anything but I’m sure he woulda). Check the teaser video below to see Raekwon the chef reading lyrics off his blackberry… or even better, check the full length trailer at the official website to see the whole process coming together… top moment: Black Keys play a song for Mos Def in a car stereo, a smile creeps across his face and he goes into the studio like a giddie school girl to write the lyrics for “Coochie.” Does mighty Mos ever remind you of a ’special’ kid? Tracklist after the jump.

El-P dishes back Vast Aire’s generous portion of beef…

August 27th, 2009

Lets blow the dust off the old Hip-Hop Feud folder for a minute and insert a new, more dangerous page of street music warfare being executed around the mean streets of Myspace. The prodigious co-front man of independent NY hip-hop label Def Jux (oops… Definitive Jux) El-P has responded rather poetically to a rambling, CAP LOCKED Vast Aire (see Cannibal Ox) Myspace rant, who was in turn responding to a vicious, apparently unwarranted Myspace attack from Cage as well as Vast’s own little F.U. to El-P and the Def Jux family as a whole. The feud is tied together by the payment of respect to the memory of Camu Tao. In a former life El, Vast,  Camu and Cage were all, at one time or another, members of the legendary supergroup Weathermen with individually dope artists Jakki da Motamouth, Copywrite and Aesop Rock, amongst others. Money, greed, a 1 year memorial post for Camu Tao by Cage and all that corrupts the otherwise irreproachable world of underground hip-hop eventually led to this…. which eventually led to the “Crossover Ambassador” EL-P’s poetic summary of a family of amateur Weather forecasters who couldn’t predict their own individual fates.

The face of a vegetarian Weatherman.

TONIGHT and TOMORROW: it’s hardly a very pleasant Atmosphere at House of Blues LV and the Hollywood Palladium

August 18th, 2009

So what do you do When God Gives You Ugly? give it back and say, “No Thank You Very Much.” Atmosphere, on the other hand, composed of the endlessly talented producer/rappers Slug & Ant, has decided to take ugly and run with it on a North American tour. tonight they’re hitting the city of sin with a show at House of Blues LV, and tomorrow night they stop on by in sunny Los Angeles at the Hollywood Palladium. so ladies leave your makeup at home and fellas go a day without tweezing your nose hairs. it’s bound to be an ugly sort of evening. special guests Eyedea & Abilities (fuck yeah, they’re sick too) and Attracted to Gods are, however, quite lovely to look at. (thanks to Soulslider for the assist…)

TONIGHT: THEMSELVES don’t keep to themselves at all at Spaceland with [Post-foetus] and Emily Wells

July 29th, 2009

Themselves – P.U.S.H.

jesus satan is a big fan of Adam Doseone and his various iterations of acid-laced hip hop weirdness. he’s a founding member of the excellent cLOUDDEAD, a frequent performer at the venerable Coachella music festival, and tonight he brings Themselves, his dynamic duo alter ego with performer Jel, to Spaceland after a six year hiatus. Doseone is a consummate entertainer, and this show gets a three thumbs up recommendation from jesus satan, especially because hometown heroes [Post-foetus] (these guys are everywhere in L.A. right now) and Emily Wells are opening up. (as an aside, Spaceland has quite a few excellent shows this week. hauntingly wonderful Castanets is playing tomorrow, and Band of Skulls ripped some shit up last night.)
