i can’t think of a better way to celebrate America then by living in the past. there’s a big line up of rockabilly swingers (that would be an amazing porn site) at Hootenanny 2009… Reverend Horton Heat, Los Lobos (awesome), Nekromantix (though they’re not on the flier), HorrorPops, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Supersuckers, Blasters, 3 Bad Jacks, Roger Alan Wade, Lee Rocker, Dusty Rhodes and the River Band and plenty more at the Oak Canyon Ranch in Irvine, CA. (there’s an excellent old video from the Rev Horton Heat below this massive flier. fun to watch if only for it’s punk rock production value, so check it out.)

Creedance Clearwater Revival – Born on a Bayou

Imagine a fireworks show directed by Michael Bay and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. Now take out all of the horrible planning, half-assed ideas, illogical thoughts, and the deaths of innocent people as a result of 9,000 roman candles being pointed in the wrong direction… and you will get a sense of the scale of this extravaganza. This is Hollywood after all.

From July 2nd through July 4th, The Hollywood Bowl will be hosting their annual spectacular fireworks bonanza with special guest John Fogerty. The classical rock crafstman behind Creedance Clearwater Revival. They will put on a show, trust me.

There’s a LOT to do this weekend. Let’s start with some feather-weight fun for the faint of heart. Redondo Beach has been hosting free concerts all summer long, every Thursday and Saturday. I’m sure this weekend’s festivities will be extra special because of YAY-AMERICA-Day!
