I like The Very Best. I like them because their music is infectiously happy and it helps me through the frigid New York winters (waaaahhh I hate you LA). Here’s Very Best’s frontman Esau Mwamwaya with Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend doing “Warm Heart of Africa” and it looks like the two of them are having a blast poppin and lockin around the streets of NYC (is that canal street?). I smell a buddy-cop comedy in their future.
Wow. Check out Beyonce’s kid sister, Solange Knowles, flexing her golden pipes to the Dirty Projectors’ “Stillness is the Move”… she kills it. On top of Dre’s “XXplosive” beat no less. Damn this family has some genes. I know next to nothing about Solange but I feel bad for her…standing in the shadow of BEYONCE. The shadow of her ass alone is enough to keep you in the dark forever. Throw in the fact that she’s one of the biggest stars on the planet and one half of the biggest power couple on the planet (B and Jay are Hollywood’s top earning couple according to ABC news)… those are some big shoes to fill.
EDIT:revoking “I feel bad for her” …she’s a multi-millionaire dimepiece what the fuck was a thinking?
man, i want some cake! tonight Asthmatic Kitty Records indentured servants Jookabox are playing the Cake Shop in NY. the show is cheap as fuck at only $7, but mostly i’m posting about it because i really, REALLY miss Halloween, and this rad video is very Halloween-esque (that’s a fancy, big time-y way of saying “like”), and you all know how much i like to relive my youth (aka stay stuck in the past). you can’t get tickets in advance, which is the weirdest thing ever in the digital age, and that earns this show jesus satan’s hipster swine gold seal of disapproval.
Passion Pit sold out a grip of shows here in Los Angeles a while back, so they’re going to grace us with their presence once more with a show tonight at the Henry Fonda. i like them, actually. everyone does. they’re just soooooooo popular. big fcuking whoop, Passion Pit. oooh, so everyone’s your friend? so everyone likes you? well you’ll get yours, Passion Pit. i didn’t want to be your friend, anyway.
ha, i love internet searches. turns out there is a Loverboy song named 'Passion Pit', and i'm guessing that's what they're named after. well played, Passion Pit. well played.
reunited and it feels so fine. i guess that Foo Fighters thing never really worked out, as Sunny Day Real Estate is playing the Henry Fonda / Music Box tonight with all original members. has anyone told Dave Grohl? boy, his bands just never seem to find any success… this is a three thumbs up, highly recommended show from jesus satan. see you there.

brother and sister team Olof Dreijer and Karin Elisabeth Dreijer Andersson aka The Knife is hands down amazingness, though i am utterly shocked to hear them penetrating the mainstream so much recently since they’re also such incredible weirdos (which is a good thing…) not sure if they’ve been having some sibling rivalry or what, but there has been a lot of speculation about a breakup what with no new album in forever. Andersson has also come out with her own Fever Ray side project, which is pretty much The Knife sans Olof (even though he contributes to the album). ironically, Fever Ray is blowing up all on their own, and she’s playing the Henry Fonda tonight. it’s not sold out as of right now, so you can still get tickets here, which you should, because this show gets a three thumbs up recommendation from j. satan.
hey Fever Ray, ever heard of this little band called The Misfits? they called and want their skull face paint that’s been completely and thoroughly milked to death back…
Charlatans UK – Nine Acre Dust (Chemical Brothers Remix)
yeah i kind of remember these guys kind of. surprisingly The Charlatans UK never broke up, and they were touring the US for probably the first time in a really long time probably like since the nineties or something i don’t know i’m too tired to look it up why don’t you do it for once? but anyways it doesn’t matter because one of them had to get surgery for being old or something, and they’ve cancelled their US tour. sorry Brit Pop fans, but i’m sure you’re used to disappointment anyway. disappointment, after all, is all your bands sing about!
Bat For Lashes is playing tonight at the Henry Fonda to make up for her sold out show a couple months ago at the El Rey. “security” wouldn’t let me in since i didn’t have a “ticket”, and the “police” didn’t understand that i’m not “stalking”, either, i just needed to “talk” to her. all said and done it was a terrible night and i’d like to put it behind me. so this time i bought a ticket and i think she’ll be really happy to see me there. can’t wait to see the look on her face!
