New York Dolls – Trash

the New York Dolls more or less invented punk, and surviving member Sylvain Sylvain is making a rare solo appearance tonight at the soon to be deceased Knitting Factory Hollywood. WTTD pals Adam Bones are opening the night (see a gallery of their show with The Ringers and The Yelling here), with The United Snakes and Angus Khan.

Z-Trip – Take Two Copies (Feat. Busdriver)

Busdriver is making a couple stops in town (get it?) with a free teaser show tonight at Amoeba Records in Hollywood and he follows tomorrow night with a full show at the Knitting Factory. i’m not a big fan of linguistic gymnastics, and i wish he would take a breath once in a while… it’s kind of like heavy metal guitarists shredding for no reason, but i his lyrics are smart, and his beats are fun, so i recommend this one. (actually reminds me of a less hallucinogenic Subtle.)

god, where to start? with over three decades of mayhem and degeneracy under his belt (get it?), Kim Fowley is sort of the Aleister Crowley of the Los Angeles music scene. check out his Wikipedia page here for a more thorough rundown on his shenanigans, highlights of which include possible statutory rape of The Runaways and production of one of the first recorded songs about LSD. got to speak to him a little in person at the recent Bettie Page: Heaven Bound opening at World of Wonder (gallery of pics coming soon), and i have to admit, it’s pretty hard to take a conversation with a seventy year old man wearing lipstick seriously. anyways, he’s got some mondo bizarro night coming up with a bunch of other misunderstoods at the Knitting Factory LA tonight. there is no doubt in my mind that it will at the very least be quite entertaining, though not necessarily in a good way. it’s all ages (frightening), and hosted by Christine Blood. hope you saved up your pennies for the lesbian slave auction.

Kim Fowley’s Lipstick Orgy starring Beat Killers, Fabulous Miss Wendy, Bad Things, Kim Fowley, Zombelle, Soul Veil, hosted by Mistress of Ceremonies Christine Blood plus All-Girl Midnight Jam & Lesbian Slave Auction. What can be said about Kim Fowley that hasn’t already been said a thousand times over? Starmaker, producer, huckster, genius, freak, walking musical encyclopedia and tireless self-promoter, Fowley is a permanent feature on the leading edge of the international music scene. Tonight he returns as vocalist in his own right and also presenting a slew of acts that all feature outrageous female musicians, singers and performance artists. As to the headliner the Beat Killers, no less an authority than the L.A. Weekly’s Falling James says the group has “the quintessential ’60s garage rock sound. … Beat Killers stand out from ratty pack with their boundless energy, deft chops and crafty songwriting.” **PLEASE NOTE: All ticket holders under the age of 21 must purchase a single $3 drink ticket before entering the show in addition to the regular ticket price. Drink tickets are redeemable for a water or a soda at the bar.
