as previously mentioned, The Sounds are in town, and there is an after party tonight for my birthday at La Cita with a DJ set from the band, as well as DJ Jeremy Dawson of Shiny Toy Guns. no one involved actually knows that it’s for my birthday, but they’re happy to do it just the same.

once again Dance Right at La Cita (336 South Hill St) is getting a shout out for their killer flyers. no idea who the Cosmic Kids are, and this video looks like they were involved in the worst hipster swine party ever, but all that matters is that there is free entry, cheap hipster beer and a nearby redline stop, anyway.

Daedelus – A Mashnote

tonight at the Echoplex a whole grip of excellent DJs celebrate the imminent birth of the Friends of Friends record label (which sounds vaguely sexual to me for some reason). Daedelus, Peanut Butter Wolf (doing an audio/visual set… what a nerd!), Jogger and Mexicans with Guns (like there are any Mexicans withOUT guns…) perform live,  and there are also other DJs in between, plus Puma is giving away stuff (free shoes!?). looks like fun, and unless you already have tickets for Amanda Palmer or you’re going to La Cita for Dance Right, there ain’t much else to do tonight. it’s eighteen and over, too, so there will be plenty of young uns to buy alcohol for. if you’re into that sort of thing. which i am.

Chairlift – Bruises

you gotta hand it to these Chairlift kids. they’ve got plenty of energy (must be on uppers.) tonight they’re headlining a show at the Echo with Luke Top and The Frequency, followed by a Chairlift DJ set at Dance Right for the official afterparty with Mike Simonetti, IAMSOUND(SYSTEM), and DJ Pubes (grossest DJ name in America) on the wreck the tape decks at La Cita.

this Saturday they play a FREE show with Dublab DJs Frosty and Ale at the Getty for the more or less monthly Saturdays Off the 405 series (parking is free now, too!). and just in case you happened to miss all that (put down the bongs you lazy bastards), on Sunday they make a stop for another show at the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa. i hate overachievers.

every second Thursday of the month is the Downtown Art Walk where trusting artistic souls open more than thirty galleries as well as their hearts to the Los Angeles public. usually there are lots of random people, lots of booze, and lots of damage… and for once it’s not just me. here are a few of the highlights from tonight:

Crewest has their seven year anniversary surprise with live beats by DJ Phyz Ed (best DJ name ever) and live printing by Two Rabbits, plus art from a TON of artists.

Thinkspace is invading the Citzen LA Downtown Art Park (458 S. Main Street in downtown Los Angeles 90013 (between 4th & 5th) with live painting from Mear One (fucking rad!) and Ekundayo.

the Hive Gallery is still showing it’s May collective (Hive? collective? get it?) of artists, as well as musical type performances. they usually charge, too, so here’s your chance to see stuff there for free.
