TONIGHT: Hiding From The Normals with Alex Pardee at Gallery 1988

October 6th, 2009

Hiding-From-The-Normals-new-works-by-Alex-Pardee-at-Gallery-1988-LA

this looks fun and/or mildly scary. San Fran artist Alex Pardee brings his Halloween fun to L.A. a little early this year with an opening at Gallery 1988 Los Angeles (7020 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles, 90038 (323) 937-7088). there’s a Halloween contest and everything, so don’t forget to wear your costume. oh, wait, you already are! har dee har har…

Gallery 1988 Los Angeles with Alex Pardee's Hiding From The NormalsGallery1988: Los Angeles is proud to announce what will undoubtedly be one of the gallery’s most extensive and elaborate exhibits in its history. Bay Area artist Alex Pardee will display a group of new works that he calls his “largest and most intense body of work to date” in “Hiding From The Normals,” which will open with a reception on October 6th, from 7-10 PM. Pardee, who will be in attendance that night, has created a Halloween universe all his own with paintings, prints, t-shirts and an installation that just might scare you. There will even be a Halloween COSTUME CONTEST, where Alex will pick a winner and give out a special treat! On October 6th, we will also be celebrating the highly anticipated DVD/Blu-Ray Release of “Trick R Treat,” a film by Michael Dougherty, which will include a special limited edition “Trick R Treat” t-shirt by Alex Pardee, a screening of the film in our parking lot and the filmmakers signing the movie! We promise this will be one art show you have to see to believe, as Alex has even created his own horror story to tie these new characters together. This show will run until October 29th.

(sorry, sports fans. Fatboy Slim dropped out…)

break out the ecstasy, Los Angeles, and get back in that K-hole. Electric Daisy Carnival hits the LA Memorial Coliseum and Sports Arena

June 1st, 2009

so… Major Lazer. he’s a Jamaican commando who loses his arm in the zombie wars of 1984 and then is repurposed with experimental lazers as a new prosthetic limb. (or he’s actually Diplo working with Switch with Andy Milonakis guesting…) not much point in trying to be funny here when i am clearly out of my league. congratulations, Major Lazer, you win this round. but at what cost? amazing video from Major Lazer below.

if you want to see Major Lazer, they’re hitting L.A. for the Electric Daisy Carnival two-day festival (Friday June 26th and Saturday June 27th) at the LA Memorial Coliseum and Sports Arena. so dust off those glow sticks for a fairly incredible electronica lineup with performances by Thievery Corporation, Paul Oakenfold, Groove Armada, ATB, Paul Van Dyk, Benny Benassi, Kaskade, Infected Mushroom, Roger Sanchez, Mark Farina, Boys Noize, Shiny Toy Guns (at a rave? weird), Simian Mobile Disco, Diplo (by himself AND with Major Lazer, i think… that’s what it looks like, anyway, but i’m not really sure), DJ AM, Dieselboy, DJ Hype, LTJ Bukem, Markus Schulz, Sander Van Doorn, Yoji, and just a whole fucking lot of other DJs.
