Massive Attack has been one of my favs since Protection came out in the early nineties, and while Heligoland is by far their weakest album, their weakest album is still better than most other bands’ strongest. this is the new video/film for Saturday Come Slow with Blur/Gorillaz’ Damon Albarn. it’s an incredibly ballsy move to run something like this as your slick new promotional tool, and i think it’s an incredibly effective piece. (no bullshit, jesus satan went to jail a few weeks back (don’t drink and drive, kids), and they pulled a lot of the same ridiculous shit. i can’t imagine having to spend months and even years of your life under those kinds of conditions, no matter what the crime.) check out some of the other progressive videos from Heligoland here. i wholeheartedly recommend the NSFW film for Paradise Circus with Georgina Spelvin of The Devil In Miss Jones fame. here is the annual fake Coachella lineup for 2010 (thanks Los Anjealous). jesus satan will shit his pants if Faith No More is there, and i’m guessing that a lot of these other bands are actually pretty solid bets. The xx, Major Lazer, and Vampire Weekend are all a given. Public Image Ltd is a good possibility, as is Devo, The Antlers, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Imogen Heap and La Roux. i also wouldn’t be surprised about LCD Soundsystem and Massive Attack, both have new albums coming out this year  - R.I.P. Jerry Fuchs : o (

if you like to smoke a little of the bad, tonight is the best night ever to get ripped and see some dub with Mad Professor, Warchurch & Mudluscious at the House of Blues on Sunset. Mad Professor made one of my favorite albums of all time, No Protection, a Mad Professor Vs. Massive Attack (who is headlining the Bestival festival in the UK this September… fuck if that doesn’t look amazing…) collection of remixes that is unbelievably good for chilling in bed while trying to drift off to sleep after a night of debauchery and/or hallucinogenics. (that’s a good thing.)

Tricky is playing the Henry Fonda tonight, and it’s a god damned crime that it’s not sold out already. Tricky was part of the Massive Attack collective when they were still young and full of hip hop, and his first solo album Maxinquaye went out and changed the world. believe ol’ j. satan, even if you haven’t heard it, your big time rock ‘n roll heroes have, and his music has probably made an indelible impact on your life even if you didn’t know about him.
this is a three thumbs up show from me, one of the best acts i’ve ever seen live (even though all he did was smoke pot and stand with his back to the audience) and i highly (get it?) recommend checking it out.
