Cinespia, you’re after jesus satan’s A/V geek heart. this is the tenth season of goth-tastic screenings at the Hollywood Forever cemetery and they’re really pulling out all the stops this year with an absolute tremendous selection of classic films. check out the rest of the lineup here and join the email list because there’s more to come. it goes through to September, i think. then try to see one or two or all of them. you can bring in picnic-y stuff (i.e. booze) and last year FUCKING PAUL REUBENS showed up to introduce the screening of Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, so you never know, there just might be a surprise or two. (although i’m pretty sure Bogey and Bergman ain’t showing for this one, unless it’s their ghosts. it is a graveyard in Hollywood, after all.)

Cinefamily has programmed a great fucking month of quality (in other words, terrible) horror films and i’m truly sorry i haven’t been able to post more about the absolutely stellar run they’ve had. this week wraps up the series with a trilogy of terror (no, not the movie, but definitely the same general idea) tonight, tomorrow night, and Saturday. tickets for all three evenings are available via their calendar page here.
tonight there is a triple-feature with Hatchet (even though the amazing Chopping Mall is pictured in their flyer for some reason), Shakma and Night of the Demon.

tomorrow night, and holy fuck buttons do i want to go to this but i’ll be too busy getting loaded, is a double feature from torture porn auteur José Mojica Marins, with uncensored runs of Hallucinations of a Deranged Mind and Embodiment of Evil (wonderfully NSFW trailer below).

You should be able to kill at least half your workday with this gem from Empire magazine.

Hidden in one big canvas are images depicting the titles of 50 movies that have come out in 20 years since Empire published its first issue.

Virgin did something similar a few years ago with bands instead of movies. This one is more user-friendly with actual interactive elements that let you type in your answers and find out if they’re right or wrong. It’ll also keep track of how many you’ve gotten correct and gray them out so you can narrow your focus to the really tricky ones.

I’m stuck at 42/50. (Including the one to the right. Any ideas?) And so far there’s only been one movie I’ve never heard of, which is pretty amazing considering my impressive lack of movie knowledge.
