FREE SHOW: Titus Andronicus, Woods & Beach Fossils @ Webster Hall.
You’re welcome.
You’re welcome.
finally, L.A. has a festival worthy of Pitchfork status. the F Yeah Festival (previously the Fuck Yeah Fest) has gone even more wuss and titled themselves the FYF Fest this year, but what they are lacking in balls they have more than made up for with a crazy gigantor lineup of indie superstars, and yes, ‘indie superstars’ is totally a contradiction in terms…
tomorrow is the day, and the show is being headlined by The Black Lips, Tim & Eric, and Lightning Bolt, plus a ton of other WTTD favs like No Age, The Thermals, Glass Candy, Mika Miko, Crystal Antlers, Telepathe, Peanut Butter Wolf, Har Mar Superstar, and (TINT fav) Wavves, who is, hilariously, WAYYYYY down on the list. there are a ton of other acts, too. you can see the posted lineup, set times, etc., at the FYF site.
and all this for a whopping twenty bucks? FUCK YEAH! oh, i mean FY! they’re also saying that it’s a “Save Our State Parks Festival”, and i’m not sure exactly if money is supposed to go to the state parks or whatever because the site says they’re just raising ‘awareness’, which is a little sketchy. there is a whole dollar being added for charity, though. so i guess they’re doing more than i am. well fuck that. no one outclasses jesus satan, FYF Fest! here. now i’m raising awareness.
No Age – It’s Oh So Quiet (Alternate Take) (Björk cover)
damn, i can’t wait for the scene when the cute widdle cub trips out… Cinefamily is presenting two showings of The Bear tonight while hometown post-protopunk heroes No Age accompany the film with a live score they’ve written specifically for the movie. this night has fantastic written all over it, and it gets a three-thumbs-up recommendation from j. satan. shows are at 8pm and 10.30pm. (catch No Age doing their normal thang at the FYF Fest, too, on September 5th.)
The Bear
(w/ live score by No Age)
from the Cinefamily site: L.A.-based, world-renowned experimental noise pop duo No Age will appear live at the Cinefamily to perform their brand-new score for Jean-Jacques Annaud’s majestic 1988 film The Bear, a near-wordless cinematic expedition deep into the savagery and tenderness of the animal kingdom. Told from the titular species’ point of view, The Bear chronicles the journey of an orphan bear cub and a lone adult bear banding together to avoid two human hunters. Along the way, director Annaud has great fun with the storytelling possibilities from a non-human perspective, including dream sequences and an unforgettable psychdelic mushroom bear trip! With nearly no (human) dialogue, the film easily lends itself to live scoring, and No Age drummer Dean Spunt and guitarist Randy Randall have crafted a shimmering 90-minute set of sonic blasts and delicate textures that perfectly complement the peculiar, touching and altogether unique experience that is The Bear.
