tonight WTTD pal and internet pin-up queen Courtney Cruz brings a sexy reprise of her Star Wars themed stripperella show to the Henry Fonda theater. for plenty more naughtiness from other Devil’s Playground shows, including Video Game Girls and Fetish Girls, check out our gallery section here. tickets aren’t available anymore online, but there are plenty at the door. jesus satan will see you there. (*UPDATE – this was all sold out and jesus satan did NOT see you there. congratulations Courtney!)
Terry Richardson leads the most charmed life ever, that lucky motherfucker. this is an extended behind the scenes of Richardson shooting the new 2010 Pirelli Calendar, a fairly esteemed job in the world of photography, for reasons that are pretty evident. carpe diem, bro. carpe fucking diem. (video is most certainly NSFW)
damn, those Yeasayer kids are going to be kind of a big deal, and Warpaint kind of rulz the schulz, too, so i was really looking forward to tonights First Fridays‘ double header tonight at the Natural History Museum. (Deer Tick closes out the season on March 5th.) oh well, as compensation here’s a bunch of awesome Yeasayer-ness. firstly, their new album, Odd Blood, which has finally released, is available right now to preview in its entirety on their Myspace page here, and it’s also available for download in a variety of packages here. some really great stuff, although nothing as stellar as their Ambling Alp single, NSFW video of which is below. which brings me to my second note. check out the naked psychedelica weirdness of their Ambling Alp Single experience that’s meant to accompany the video at their site here. kind of like watching porn while you drop some acid. (the image above is a screen capture from it.) fuck i love this song. (*update: they’re streaming the live show starting at 8.30 here.)
this looks impossibly, impossibly lame, and it could have been such an amazing concept if they shot it right, like their Fight Clubhomage last year. empires crumble, folks. probably all started with the way they treated their talent. and their photographers. someone give that guy a job… he needs the money.
talk about a bad trip! TONIGHT Grindhouse presents the cult classic An American Hippie In Israel at the Steve Allen Theater. the cheeseball psychedelic masterpiece of terrible is screening after thirty-one years of obscurity. seems like it will probably be full of antidisestablishmentarianism. and also drugs. lots of drugs. i have no idea why but The Ettes are also bringing their Nashville lo-fi garage rock to the night. this seems like a whole lot of amazing for only $10, and movies actually sell out at the Steve Allen a lot so get your tickets in advance here. (The Ettes are also playing tomorrow night at the Echo - tickets here for only $8.) “shut your ass!” (*update: there are cheaper tickets available through Goldstar here. get them fast, it stops a few hours before the show.)
here is the annual fake Coachella lineup for 2010 (thanks Los Anjealous). jesus satan will shit his pants if Faith No More is there, and i’m guessing that a lot of these other bands are actually pretty solid bets. The xx, Major Lazer, and Vampire Weekend are all a given. Public Image Ltd is a good possibility, as is Devo, The Antlers, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Imogen Heap and La Roux. i also wouldn’t be surprised about LCD Soundsystem and Massive Attack, both have new albums coming out this year - R.I.P.
