tonight WTTD pal and internet pin-up queen Courtney Cruz brings a sexy reprise of her Star Wars themed stripperella show to the Henry Fonda theater. for plenty more naughtiness from other Devil’s Playground shows, including Video Game Girls and Fetish Girls, check out our gallery section here. tickets aren’t available anymore online, but there are plenty at the door. jesus satan will see you there. (*UPDATE – this was all sold out and jesus satan did NOT see you there. congratulations Courtney!)
Terry Richardson leads the most charmed life ever, that lucky motherfucker. this is an extended behind the scenes of Richardson shooting the new 2010 Pirelli Calendar, a fairly esteemed job in the world of photography, for reasons that are pretty evident. carpe diem, bro. carpe fucking diem. (video is most certainly NSFW)
sadly, MTV hasn’t released their classic game show Remote Control on DVD, and it’s pretty hard to find elsewhere, so in a way this is kind of a double obituary. host Ken Ober brought a goofy dynamic to game show hosting (on purpose), and he and Remote Control helped to launch the careers of a variety of love ‘em or hate ‘em comedians, including Adam Sandler, Denis Leary, and Colin Quinn (not to mention scream queen Kari Wuhrer. hotcha! she even made eighties clothes look good!). tragically, Ober passed away this week at the ripe young age of 52 (no word on why yet). pour one out 4 tha homiez, y’all… i’m sure Ober is resting comfortably in that La-Z-Boy in the sky, remote in one hand, bag of salty snacks in the other.
Irving Penn died yesterday. he was an amazing photographer at the center of the fashion industry for decades, and his simple, graphic style contrasted beautifully with complex subject matter and theme. plus he did a lot of nudes. there is an Irving Penn retrospective right now at the Getty (1200 Getty Center Drive, Los Angeles, 90049. (310) 440-7330) through mid-January if you would like to mourn surrounded by his art. pour one out 4 tha homiez y’all, and dedicate the next time you’re vogueing to him. (more images after the jump.)
this song is totally a big shitty whatev… i don’t know about you, but when i used to play my 8-bit NES, i turned down my TV and listened to some real music, i.e. fucking Metallica, so this whole 8-bit soundtrack resurgence thing is kind of getting on my nerves. nonetheless, what’s absolutely insane about this video is that this is all done in the real world with real legos. the band, Rymdreglage (whatever the hell that means… damn Norwegians and their goofy swedish meatball names) claims that it took more than 1500 hours of physical work, which is about how long it took me to beat Metroid. if only i had spent my time as wisely… nahhhhhhh, then my childhood (early twenties) would have sucked… (thanks, 40fakes.)
well, this should drum them up a lot of free publicity. love ‘em or absolutely – hate – ‘em, American Apparel knows what they’re doing. they’ve released their entire press archive of publicity and fashion spreads of near naked, near underage girlies writhing around all disturbingly sexy-like for photographer Terry Richardson and CEO Dov Charney and company (literally). go here for the extensive photo history, and you probably shouldn’t do it at work, unless you work for smutty-ass American Apparel that is, because then being a deviant is encouraged.
i hope that video of Dov Charney walking around the offices in his underwear isn't posted, too...
holy jesus (satan), Dave MacDowell may just be the new king of pop (rest in pieces, M.J.). i was lucky enough to see David MacDowell’s The Sins of Atticus Finch show at Thinkspace a couple months ago, and the more i see of his portfolio of jumbled up pop schizophrenia, the more i laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh all crazy like while talking to myself. there is plenty of more wonderful-ness on his website here, and you can read his blog here to read about the methods behind his particular brand of madness. preach on, mad pop genius. preach on.
