Kylie Minogue – Come Into My World (Fischerspooner Remix)
i love Kylie Minogue and no, i am not gay. her electro pop stuff is pretty fantastic for mainstream sugar, and i can never hate on anyone who guested on Nick Cave’s near perfect Murder Ballads album. she’s making her big time debut at the Hollywood Bowl tonight, and i think everyone should go. mostly, though, i just wanted to post this cause the flyer does something awful to my loins.
Charlatans UK – Nine Acre Dust (Chemical Brothers Remix)
yeah i kind of remember these guys kind of. surprisingly The Charlatans UK never broke up, and they were touring the US for probably the first time in a really long time probably like since the nineties or something i don’t know i’m too tired to look it up why don’t you do it for once? but anyways it doesn’t matter because one of them had to get surgery for being old or something, and they’ve cancelled their US tour. sorry Brit Pop fans, but i’m sure you’re used to disappointment anyway. disappointment, after all, is all your bands sing about!
Matt and Kim – No More Long Years (Radioclit Remix)
Matt and Kim – It’s A Fact (Printed Stained) (Mano Remix Feat. Hollywood Holt)
tonight über-cute pop sensation Matt and Kim are playing the El Rey. i can’t help but wonder how much of the rather amazing video (below) for Lessons Learned is staged and how much is real. don’t know too many cops that let two naked people and a camera crew get away. seems more like a Benny Hill episode than NYC’s finest, but it’s a great video nonetheless.
Santogold – I’m A Lady (Diplo Mix Ft Amanda Blank)
randomly, miss sweet thang herself Amanda Blank goes on first. should be a good show all around, even if Blank is a total mismatch as an opener.
it’s totally a guilty pleasure but i love the Ting Tings. everyone was giving me shit about seeing them at this year’s Coachella, but they were hands down one of the standout performances, and i have little doubt that they will do a headlining show at Club Nokia quite a bit of justice. (plus there will be a lot of hot preteen girls getting down and dancing around all slumber party pillow fight like. which is another guilty pleasure of mine, except this time with a LOT more emphasis on the ‘guilty’ part.) they’re playing with WTTD favs Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head and Hot Tub (whom i don’t like at all) as openers.
holy jesus (satan), Dave MacDowell may just be the new king of pop (rest in pieces, M.J.). i was lucky enough to see David MacDowell’s The Sins of Atticus Finch show at Thinkspace a couple months ago, and the more i see of his portfolio of jumbled up pop schizophrenia, the more i laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh all crazy like while talking to myself. there is plenty of more wonderful-ness on his website here, and you can read his blog here to read about the methods behind his particular brand of madness. preach on, mad pop genius. preach on.
Dave MacDowell - Princess (molly ringwald as slave leia)
- MJ is topping ALL the charts just like the good ol’ days, I’m talking album sales, iTunes tracks, singles, pop charts, you name it… even on ultimate-guitar.com (a guitar sheet music website) 2 of his songs are in the top 10, he didn’t even play guitar!
But so far, this is one of the most fun things I’ve seen in relation to his death: The Eternal Moonwalk. It’s great, go watch, listen, press buttons, send in a video, spread the word. Word.
Oh and if you need help learning, here are some moonwalk lessons to help you out. Anyone can dance, it doesn’t matter if you’re black or white (eeee hee!).
Kylie Minogue – Come Into My World (Fischerspooner Remix)
i love Kylie Minogue and no, i am not gay. her electro pop stuff is pretty fantastic for mainstream sugar, and i can never hate on anyone who was a guest artist on Nick Cave’s near perfect Murder Ballads album. she’s making her big time debut at the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday, October 4th, and i think everyone should go. mostly, though, i just wanted to post this cause the flyer does something awful to my loins.
Appalachian Lullaby – Shudder To Think with Nina Persson
A Camp featuring Nina Persson (The Cardigans), Nathan Larson (Shudder To Think) & Niclas Frisk (Atomic Swing) is playing the Troubadour tonight. Shudder To Think was (although they’ve been playing around again) at times amazing and at other times too experimental for their own good, and The Cardigans (you know, the Love Me, Love Me band from the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack) were glistening, sugary pop with a dark, steaming underbelly that came through mostly in Persson’s lyrics, so this should be a decent mix. the Shudder To Think song posted above is an early collaboration with Persson. from the damn fine First Love, Last Rites soundtrack. i highly recommend it, both the film and the album. anyways, now they’re in a band together called A Camp. terrible name, good music.
A Camp – Stronger Than Jesus Satan
“Girl-pop from the 60s, 80’s punk, and David Bowie” are claimed to be the influences of this trio’s most recent album. This side project originally came together by way of Nina Persson and Niclas Frisk in 2000 and they immediately recorded and released a self-titled album. After that, A Camp got put on a back burner for a bit while Persson left to tour and promote the Cardigan’s album release at the time. She then moved to NYC with now husband Nathan Larson and he joined in the effort to make A Camp a trio. Just last month the band released their second album Colonia in Europe on Universal, the album will be out next month in the US via Nettwerk.
