cute animals and self-mutilation, it must be a Luke Chueh show. WTTD goes to CoproGallery in Santa Monica for Chueh’s Beginnings/Endings and Other Worthless Epiphanies and Mari Inukai’sDecadence openings.
here’s a rare weekend post to celebrate a record breaking traffic day yesterday as well as to point out a lot of great openings tonight in the metropolitan Los Angeles area. earlier in the week we mentioned the Brian Viveros/Dan Quintana/Bad Otis Link triple header in Santa Monica, and jesus satan also highly recommends Corey Helford Gallery’s opening for both Michael Mararian’s “Youth Parade” and Miso’s “The Cold Returns”. Mararian’s current project looks incredibly intense and wickedly funny, just the way i like my women art. there are also something like fourteen other shows tonight, so check out Sour Harvest for a fairly thorough rundown on what’s what, where and at what times. Sour Harvest also emails a great weekly newsletter on recommended art openings, so sign up for that shit here. then i don’t always have to be the one telling you what to do, where to go, how to dress, etc…. i mean, what am i, your mom?
this Saturday Brian Viveros and Dan Quintana are bringing their special brand of military fetish to Santa Monica with their Desensitized opening at CoproGallery. Bad Otis Link provides backup with his You’ll Be Sorry When I’m Dead show in the back room. (jesus satan says that every day and he doesn’t get an opening. people usually just laugh, actually.)
more info from Copro’s newsletter: Hey Everyone – This Saturday, January 16, 8:00-11:30 PM, CoproGallery presents “Desensitized” with the art of Brian Viveros & Dan Quintana. This is an incredible show for both artists and all the work is amazing. Its going to be a multi-media event in 5D with films being projected, sountracks of bizzare music and sculptures as well as live music and costumed Desensitized girls. Everyone is encouraged to participate so please dress up in military gear like a Viveros or Quintana painting and get a free “Desensitized” poster. In gallery 2 Bad Otis Link’s “You’ll Be Sorry When I’m Dead” which will also be in 5D with films, twisted puppets and warped art. I hope to see everyone there but for those that can’t make please check out the Brian Viveros web-preview. The other previews will be ready soon so stay tuned!!!
El Mac. Known for his amazing renditions of hot chicks, meticulous attention to detail, and the “how is that possible?” things he does with spraypaint. Operating as “The Mac” since the mid 90s, he’s also the coverboy for this month’s Juxtapoz and there’s a lengthy interview inside. Check out the video interview here.
BONUS: He’s got an upcoming exhibition in LA with his sometimes-partner Retna (we’ll remind you):
wish i had this kind of money to throw around… Lucky Brand jeans on the 3rd Street Promenade is putting up quite the hizzouse party with a free show Sunday afternoon by Bat For Lashes plus a couple DJ sets by KCRW front man Jason Bentley and Jimmy Tamborello (from a little band called The Postal Service). good look getting anywhere near inside of this place, but if you’re feeling brave and/or have a couple days to kill waiting in line, then you have to RSVP right here.
