Zooey Deschanel is so cute. i just want to punch her in those sweet little eyes. She & Him (i.e. Zooey and M. Ward) are playing around LA over the next month with shows at Largo (sold out), the El Rey (sold out) and the Glass House (sold out) to warm up for Coachella on the 16th, which is apparently the only way you’ll get to see them. or you can just watch the new video for In The Sun.
damn, those Yeasayer kids are going to be kind of a big deal, and Warpaint kind of rulz the schulz, too, so i was really looking forward to tonights First Fridays‘ double header tonight at the Natural History Museum. (Deer Tick closes out the season on March 5th.) oh well, as compensation here’s a bunch of awesome Yeasayer-ness. firstly, their new album, Odd Blood, which has finally released, is available right now to preview in its entirety on their Myspace page here, and it’s also available for download in a variety of packages here. some really great stuff, although nothing as stellar as their Ambling Alp single, NSFW video of which is below. which brings me to my second note. check out the naked psychedelica weirdness of their Ambling Alp Single experience that’s meant to accompany the video at their site here. kind of like watching porn while you drop some acid. not too familiar with these The Hold Steady guys, which is surprising since they’ve been around for a good five years now and they’re apparently kind of a big deal what with a sold out headlining show tonight at the El Rey. the more i hear, the more me likee, though… so here’s a video to make up for you probably not being able to get in, unless you’re cooler than jesus satan (not likely). so close your eyes and pretend you’re there at the show right now… let the power of imagination carry you away! what’s that? The Hold Steady wants you to go backstage?! hurrah! (better hope the power of your imagination knows how to wear a condom… these boys didn’t name this song “Stay Positive” for nothing…)
Bat For Lashes is playing tonight at the El Rey but too bad because it’s ALL SOLD OUT! so unless you already have tickets, she asks that you please stop bothering her and the late night calls are getting to be really annoying and it’s probably for the best if you would just stop trying to see her altogether. at least, that’s what she told me but it must be for you even though she forgot to tell me to pass the message on. anyways, since “security” probably won’t let me in without a ticket tonight, i’m going to see her at the Henry Fonda on August 31st instead. i can’t wait to see the look on her face! she’ll be so surprised to see me there!
