apparently the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are getting a little lazy and cheap in their old age. they’re running a contest for their fans to design a shirt which they will then use to sell at their concerts and online. so basically they make a ton of money off your blood and sweat and tears and all you get is some autographed ‘booty’. (unless by ‘booty’ they mean Karen O – then suddenly it’s the best contest ever.) sounds like a rip to me, but then again, we’re offering a pair of free tickets to Fritz Helder and the Phantoms if you Twitter for us like the hookers you know you are, so who are we to judge? oh yeah, we’re bloggers. info below.

Hey Folks, all us YYYs have been avid collectors of t-shirts over the years, what can we say, WE LIKEY A GOOD T-SHIRT. In our travels many of you have chucked a homemade YYY tee on the stage or what not and all the shirts have always been unique and poured over with loooooove. So it got us thinking: how about giving you the fans a crack at coming up with a fresh new blitzin’ YYY T-shirt design! It’s a natural fact that YYYs have amongst YOU a whole heap of ART STARS! So school’s out for the summer and we want you to spend a hot lazy afternoon throwing something together for us YYYs to REPRESENT! And I got a hunch you’re gonna bring it! And if you do we’ll bring back a little something in return…!! Luv, YYYs
One winner will be selected by YYYs and will have their winning design featured on YYYs sites
The winning shirt will be printed and sold on tour and in YYYs online store
Winner will also receive autographed booty from the band
Design should be for front of tee
Keep designs to 2-3 colors
Designs must be for a Black or White colored Tee
Design must be submitted digitally – no smaller than 300 DPI, photoshop or illustrator file is preferred
Design must be no larger than 14″ x 18″

sadly, i came to Olly Moss through hipster swine indie multiconglomerate Threadless, but to his credit, Moss’ In Case Of Zombies design was the very first Threadless shirt to hook me in like heroin way back when… Threadless has kind of lost its way over the last couple years, but Moss is still right on track.
Moss takes a big ol’ spoonful of influence from Saul Bass‘ iconic movie poster and title design work, and spices it all up with a heaping dash of clever. really, his whole porftolio from prints to graphics to t-shirts is wonderfully sardonic, whimsical stuff, and i wish i could post it all, but instead you’re going to have to go to his website to see that this Moss sure gathers a lot of rock! ha! Moss? rock? ’cause… the… rock gathers no… his name is… oh fucking forget it.
anyways, you all know how much i like art that celebrates my sadly misspent childhood. now it’s “culturally relevant”! so go to his site and buy stuff.
