I’m guessing it’s because he was part of such an amazing television show that he’s got an amazing cast of famous musician bros. His wife just died, leaving him to care of 3 year old twins, so his musical-bro-posse put together a tribute/benefit album for the guy. Awww.

something to artificially sweeten your morning coffee. doing a music edition today… Castanets have long been one of my favorite bands, and the song You Are The Blood is so beautiful it makes me cry. literally. well the song is also big with the kids these days, and the Dark Was The Night Red Hot Charity compilation that TINTothy posted about earlier features not one, but TWO incredible renditions of an already great song from Sufjan Stevens (the second with an assist from Buck 65 and Serengeti)… so i’m posting all three here for your listening pleasure. so buy the album for charity, and then go out and give the artists money somehow. i recommend untraceable small bills via direct donations. or you can buy them hookers. free sex is always a nice way to show someone that you care. (jesus satan is also accepting donations.)
Castanets – You Are The Blood
Sufjan Stevens – You Are The Blood
Buck 65, Sufjan Stevens and Serengeti – Blood, Pt. 2

I slid by this album a few weeks ago but hot damn, it’s fucking good. It was put together by Red Hot, an organization based out of NY that arranges albums to raise money for AIDS charities. So anyway, here’s the projected line up from Dark Was The Night’s site:
Sunday May 3 at Radio City Music Hall featuring several of the artists that contributed to the compilation including Dave Sitek, Dirty Projectors, Feist, My Brightest Diamond, The National, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings plus more to be announced in the coming weeks. Tickets will go on sale this Friday, March 13 at 11am via Ticketmaster. Dark Was The Night – Live begins at 8pm (doors will open at 7).
Since then we’ve heard David Byrne and Grizzly Bear will be joining in the ruckus, according to Feist. Who may or may not be lying. But that’d be mean. And I don’t picture her as a liar, her voice is too delicate for harsh words. Although I suppose that’s how they get ya… (seriously I don’t know who’s confirmed but it will be a great show regardless).

Eyyo kids, this is a labor of love. Just want to start getting everyone excited about the Pitchfork Festival going down in mid-July. Here’s the initial lineup:
