the Vans Warped Tour “kicks off” at the Home Depot Center in Carson. un-fucking-believable… sorry, going to wax disaffected youth for a sec… punk used to be the antithesis of selling out and here we have the “Vans” Warped Tour at the “Home Depot” center… kind of makes me remember why i stopped listening to that shit. regardless, there are some great old-skool bands on the tour, including Angry Samoans, Agent Orange, Dickies (who are always always always absolutely amazing live), GBH, Pennywise, Adolescents, Casualties, and others. Saturday it hits Shoreline Ampitheatre in Mountain View (tickets) and Sunday they’re in Ventura at Seaside Park (tickets).

i love her. i really, really do. she’s so full of angst-y cuteness. Zola Jesus is playing the Wiltern on July 31st, opening up for Wolf Parade (tickets here – or here - Moools is opening, too, whoever the hell that is). she also snagged the opening slot for Fever Ray’s European tour, so it’s probably worth it to pick up some tickets for Wolf Parade because she won’t be around these parts for a long while afterwards. here’s a new video to keep us company through the cold nights of, uh, summer, in the meantime.

meh… good song, mediocre video from a fan contest for the Decemberists. yeah, those always work out well. there are a slew (slew? hey! Decemberists’ speak!) of other videos available for your perusal (Colin Meloy watch out! i’m going to start writing your lyrics!) at the A/V Room section of their website. also, as previously mentioned, Decemberists are on the road with Hazards of Love, even playing it in its entirety in a sold out show at Royce Hall in LA, as well as a smattering (ha!) of other hallowed halls (suck on some alliteration, Meloy!) in San Fran and Portland. reunited and it feels so fine. i guess that Foo Fighters thing never really worked out, as Sunny Day Real Estate is playing the Henry Fonda / Music Box tonight with all original members. has anyone told Dave Grohl? boy, his bands just never seem to find any success… this is a three thumbs up, highly recommended show from jesus satan. see you there.
