i don’t know who this Rudy Coby dude is but he’s got four legs and a wacky haircut so he MUST be funny. (plus the creepy optical illusion hand thingy in the video above really works, check it out.) tickets here tomorrow.
fresh off their tour with crap-ass No Doubt, fun-ass band The Sounds are returning to L.A. with two shows at the Wiltern tonight and tomorrow. nose bleed tickets are still available for both nights here, and don’t worry, even though there aren’t any more general admission tickets left, you can probably steal ‘em like candy from some underage kids in the bathroom. there will be a lot of them at this show, i assure you.
if you snag tickets today, Live Nation is having a special “no service fee” deal, which will save you almost $10 a ticket. and as a bonus, Los Angeles heroes Moving Units and Shiny Toy Guns are also playing tonight and tomorrow respectively, with a couple other bands i’ve never heard of (Foxy Shazam and Semi Precious Weapons, also respectively) opening the festivities.
(i’ve never wanted to be a microphone so badly in all my life.)
here’s a lovely new video of weirdness for the song “Sing Along” from goofball Icelandic troupe Múm. not sure what they’re smoking up there what with Bjork and Sigur Rós et al, but i wish they’d stop bogarting and send it down our way. that or they’re all just insane from spending so many long dark winters stuck inside with nothing to do but make emotional pop music.
Múm is playing New York on the 24th of October at the Le Poisson Rouge (158 Bleecker Street, 10012 – tickets here) and they stop by Los Angeles at the El Rey (5515 Wilshire Blvd, 90036) in June (tickets here). they’re fun live, should be a quirky good time for all, and this one gets a three thumbs up recommendation from j. satan.

Red House Painters – Japanese To English
you might know Mark Kozelek from the amazing and sadly (that’s a pun) defunct Red House Painters. if you don’t, this quote from their wikipedia page should bring you up to date: “Kozelek used this group primarily as a vehicle for his very personal and emotional songs of despair, pain and suffering.” haha… despair makes me laugh.
Kozelek plays hauntingly beautiful sets which last a llooonnnnnng, lllooooonnnnngggg time, so if you have a few hours to kill and strength of ego enough to endure the music equivalent of shooting heroin, then head on down to the El Rey to see his Sun Kil Moon project. playing with local favorites Mia Doi Todd.
i challenge you to find a happy shot of Kozelek...
