and last but CERTAINLY not least, jesus satan favs The Antlers (who are hitting LA again as support for the Editors at the Wiltern in February 2010, tickets here) are offering an amazing and certified bootleg of their final show of the year at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC from NYCTAPER.
fresh off their tour with crap-ass No Doubt, fun-ass band The Sounds are returning to L.A. with two shows at the Wiltern tonight and tomorrow. nose bleed tickets are still available for both nights here, and don’t worry, even though there aren’t any more general admission tickets left, you can probably steal ‘em like candy from some underage kids in the bathroom. there will be a lot of them at this show, i assure you.
if you snag tickets today, Live Nation is having a special “no service fee” deal, which will save you almost $10 a ticket. and as a bonus, Los Angeles heroes Moving Units and Shiny Toy Guns are also playing tonight and tomorrow respectively, with a couple other bands i’ve never heard of (Foxy Shazam and Semi Precious Weapons, also respectively) opening the festivities.

sharing a pen-shant for all-capital-letter names but eschewing the pretentiousness that is YACHT, Los Angeles promised-peoples HEALTH are playing the Troubadour (9081 Santa Monica, 90069) tonight on their headlining lonesome as a quick addendum for their opening slots on the last two Nine Inch Nails’ performances ever this week.
surprisingly, the show still has tickets available, so get ‘em here, and be sure to get there early to catch Pictureplane, Mi Ami and Dam-funk so that you can tell me what they sound like because i’ve never heard of any of them. here’s a new video from HEALTH for the single Die Slow. they even directed it themselves, those hipster swine show-offs…

When I found out Lykke Li is scheduled to perform at The Wiltern way back when, I got all types of hot and bothered. Strange. It was at that moment I came to the realization I had a woman crush. Damn. It felt awkward at first, and I looked around hoping none of my coworkers noticed, but then I proceeded to convince myself what I was feeling was completely natural. Firstly, she’s a sexy Swede who makes dancing like your weird Aunt Janis at Bat Mitzvah’s look good. Secondly, she writes lyrics like “I’m workin’, to make butter for my piece of bun”. Butter for your piece of bun? You can’t deny that shit. Thirdly she’s got a bevy of odd ‘instruments’ like bike chains, kazoos, strung bells and plastic clappers that she plays during her songs, she even sings through a bullhorn on occasion. Do me a favor, vote No on Prop 8. I want to give this chick a deserving home.

Gomez is a little too Alice In Chains/Creed-ickish for my tastes, and their How We Operate big-shot single sounds weirdly like a sped up version of that Alanis Morisette song from City of Angels, but i’m going to post that they’re playing tonight anyway because it gives me a chance to put up this amazing pic of John Astin as Gomez Addams. hitting the Wiltern tonight with Blind Pilot, which is just a stupid, stupid name for a band.
so fcuking-A if Jarvis Cocker isn’t the coolest nerd alive and he’s playing L.A. for the first time in it seems like forever at the Wiltern tonight. Cocker was largely responsible for the amazingness that was Pulp, and his live set at Pitchfork in the sweltering Chicago heat last year was something to behold (mind you that mods do NOT wear shorts). (p.s. if any of you crazy kids out there have a copy that set, could you get it to me? i want that house song he closed with soooo baaaddddd. i’ll be your best friend? well, not really, but i might talk to you if there aren’t any other kids around.)
ok, folks. tonight is the night. supposedly. Nine Inch Nails tickets for their last four shows EVER are going on sale at 5pm PDT. of course, as of right now, NIN’s website is totally down and Reznor’s Twitter is also down. so there is no information whatsoever. good luck, America. you’ll need it.
NIN is hitting the Henry Fonda, Wiltern, Echoplex and Hollywood Palladium in September, and speaking of bids, presale tickets will be available through the NIN site at different times for each show. these places are hella small… information is supposed to be available here at the tour portion of their site, and you’ll need to sign up with YOUR REAL NAME in order to get tickets. if anything comes back up in time, that is.
