fuckin’-a if Yeah Yeah Yeahs‘ It’s Blitz! wasn’t one of the best albums of 2009, and here’s the new video for one of the best songs off of it, Skeletons, from director Barney Clay. looks like they shot the location stuff at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, too. home town whut whut! also, here’s a making of if you care not that you do.

You may remember YACHT from jesus satan’s attack on their mediocrity. Ok, probably not. More likely, you’ll remember YACHT from their defensive, meandering, holier-than-thou response to js’s post, which included this juicy nugget of pretension:

As far as the capitalization, the word “yacht” out of capitalized context can refer to commodity fetishism and an advanced capitalist culture that YACHT has prided itself in avoiding since its conception. The name of the band comes from an acronym, and the capitalized form is a sign of respect to this beginning.

I encourage you to read the whole thing, as an excerpt doesn’t do justice to the lameness of the response. (And BTW, YACHT, if you want to look smart, you should learn proper preposition use.)

In any case, the reason I’m beating the dead horse is this:

YACHT are opening for Yeah Yeah Yeahs tonight at the Greek. Which means many of us will get to experience their mystique first-hand. Since Karen O seems to think they’re worthy, I was planning on going into it with an open mind. But then I saw this interview. I think it’s the smugness that really grates. But I was heartened by their admission that they “try to be as punk as possible in everything [they] do.”

A warning: Grab your dictionary before you start, because this thing has more big words than the SAT.

apparently the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are getting a little lazy and cheap in their old age. they’re running a contest for their fans to design a shirt which they will then use to sell at their concerts and online. so basically they make a ton of money off your blood and sweat and tears and all you get is some autographed ‘booty’. (unless by ‘booty’ they mean Karen O – then suddenly it’s the best contest ever.) sounds like a rip to me, but then again, we’re offering a pair of free tickets to Fritz Helder and the Phantoms if you Twitter for us like the hookers you know you are, so who are we to judge? oh yeah, we’re bloggers. info below.

Hey Folks, all us YYYs have been avid collectors of t-shirts over the years, what can we say, WE LIKEY A GOOD T-SHIRT. In our travels many of you have chucked a homemade YYY tee on the stage or what not and all the shirts have always been unique and poured over with loooooove. So it got us thinking: how about giving you the fans a crack at coming up with a fresh new blitzin’ YYY T-shirt design! It’s a natural fact that YYYs have amongst YOU a whole heap of ART STARS! So school’s out for the summer and we want you to spend a hot lazy afternoon throwing something together for us YYYs to REPRESENT! And I got a hunch you’re gonna bring it! Design must be submitted digitally – no smaller than 300 DPI, photoshop or illustrator file is preferred
